Intelligent Diagnosis of Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis Using a CNN Model.

Lymph node (LN) metastasis is a prevalent cause of recurrence in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, accurately identifying metastatic LNs (LNs+) remains challenging. This prospective clinical study aims to test the effectiveness of our convolutional neural network (CNN) model for identifying OSCC cervical LN+ in contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) in clinical practice. A CNN model was developed and trained using a dataset of 8,380 CECT images from previous OSCC patients. It was then prospectively validated on 17,777 preoperative CECT images from 354 OSCC patients between Oc

Neural Network-Based Dynamic Prediction for Interval-Censored Data With Time-Varying Covariates: Application to Alzheimer's Disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder accounting for a significant proportion of global dementia cases. Given the lack of effective treatments, there is growing interest in dynamic prediction methods for timely interventions. Notably, many at-risk individuals with periodic clinic visits provide dynamic cognitive and functional scores. When an individual receives a new score at each follow-up, the dynamic prediction model can integrate the individual's historical scores with the new follow-up scores to offer an updated risk prediction. This study utilizes a compre

Predicting HLA class II antigen presentation through integrated deep learning.

Accurate prediction of antigen presentation by human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II molecules would be valuable for vaccine development and cancer immunotherapies. Current computational methods trained on in vitro binding data are limited by insufficient training data and algorithmic constraints. Here we describe MARIA (major histocompatibility complex analysis with recurrent integrated architecture; https://maria.stanford.edu/ ), a multimodal recurrent neural network for predicting the likelihood of antigen presentation from a gene of interest in the context of specific HLA class II alleles

Non-invasive algorithm for bowel motility estimation using a back-propagation neural network model of bowel sounds.

BACKGROUND: Radiological scoring methods such as colon transit time (CTT) have been widely used for the assessment of bowel motility. However, these radiograph-based methods need cumbersome radiological instruments and their frequent exposure to radiation. Therefore, a non-invasive estimation algorithm of bowel motility, based on a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) model of bowel sounds (BS) obtained by an auscultation, was devised. METHODS: Twelve healthy males (age: 24.8 ± 2.7 years) and 6 patients with spinal cord injury (6 males, age: 55.3 ± 7.1 years) were examined. BS signals gener

Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system for analysis of Doppler signals.

In this study, a new approach based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was presented for detection of ophthalmic artery stenosis. Decision making was performed in two stages: feature extraction using the wavelet transform (WT) and the ANFIS trained with the backpropagation gradient descent method in combination with the least squares method. The ophthalmic arterial Doppler signals were recorded from 128 subjects that 62 of them had suffered from ophthalmic artery stenosis and the rest of them had been healthy subjects. Some conclusions concerning the impacts of features on the de

Patient-specific inference and situation-dependent classification using Context-Sensitive Networks.

Representations and inferences that capture a formal notion of "context" are needed to effectively support various analytic and learning tasks in many biomedical applications. In this paper, we formulate patient-specific inference and situation-dependent classification as context-aware reasoning tasks that can be effectively supported in probabilistic graphical networks. We introduce a new probabilistic graphical framework of Context Sensitive Networks (CSNs) to efficiently represent and reason with context-sensitive knowledge. We illustrate how different types of inference in these networks c
