Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is one of the major health problems of women of child-bearing age. Among the most serious complications of PID is the formation of a tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA). Early diagnosis of this condition may prevent serious surgical complications such as peritonitis and sepsis, which may be fatal. The utilisation of self-regulatory capacity is one of the purposes of autogenic therapy, a method consisting of exercises focused on the limbs, lungs, heart, diaphragm and head. The physiological response is muscle relaxation, increased peripheral blood flow, lower heart rate and blood pressure, slower and deeper breathing, and reduced oxygen consumption. Autogenic training is applicable in most pathological conditions associated with stress, and can be used preventively or as a complement to conventional treatment.

This article illustrates the roles of ultrasonography, scintigraphy, and computed tomography (CT) as alternative techniques for pulmonary imaging in small animals. The advantages and limitations of each modality, normal anatomic features, and technical considerations will be discussed. Selected applications will be examined and include pulmonary consolidation, neoplasia and other masses, atelectasis, pneumothorax, dystrophic mineralization, diffuse infiltrative disease, and pulmonary embolism. The use of ultrasound and CT-guided interventional procedures will also be briefly discussed.

PURPOSE: The clinical and imaging findings of children with Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome (SJMS) were reviewed to determine the incidence and type of bronchiectasis and analyze whether the clinical course of patients with bronchiectasis differed from that of patients without bronchiectasis.
