This potential safety issue, however, is not well known within dentistry. The purpose of this paper is to alert dentists and dental care professionals to the potential of chlorhexidine in causing hypersensitivity reactions and to consider this possibility if unexplained hypersensitivity reactions occur.

Anaphylactoid reaction to Syntocinon is rare, but has been described in the literature. The reactions described include patchy erythema, hypotension, bronchospasm and oxygen desaturation, but pulseless electrical activity following Syntocinon has not been reported. We present the case of a 34-year-old primigravida with essential hypertension, gestational diabetes and hypothyroidism with a twin pregnancy following in vitro fertilization. During elective caesarean delivery she developed a severe anaphylactic reaction to Syntocinon leading to pulseless electrical activity.

Methotrexate (MTX) is an antimetabolite with a major role in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). The authors report the management of a 9-year-old boy who developed an anaphylactoid reaction to high-dose MTX infusion, after a first challenge with intrathecal administration, during induction therapy for ALL. A desensitization protocol was followed and MTX tolerance has been successfully achieved, allowing this patient to complete the needed chemotherapy.

Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) patients who are seropositive for anti-IgA antibodies have a predisposition for anaphylactoid reactions to intravenous immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IVIG).
