[Artificial intelligence-driven early warning for severe pneumonia: pathways and challenges from data integration to clinical decision-making].

Severe pneumonia, characterized by rapid progression and high heterogeneity, is a leading cause of patient mortality. Early identification of high-risk patients is crucial for improving outcomes. Traditional risk stratification tools, such as CURB-65 score and pneumonia severity index (PSI), primarily rely on static variables, which inadequately capture the dynamic evolution of the disease and offer limited capabilities for individualization. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly machine learning, deep learning, and multimodal fusion models, have demonstrated…

Artificial intelligence for postoperative plain radiographic assessment after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty: current evidence, clinical readiness, and limitations.

Postoperative radiographic follow-up after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) plays an essential role in the early detection of implant-related complications and longitudinal risk stratification. However, interpretation of plain radiographs remains limited by interobserver variability and low sensitivity to subtle or progressive mechanical changes. This review was intended to survey the current evidence regarding artificial intelligence (AI) applications for postoperative plain radiograph-based assessment after RTSA, with a focus on clinical readiness, validated performance, and existi…

Precision Imaging to Evaluate Kaposi Sarcoma (PRIME-KS): protocol for a multicountry novel artificial intelligence-based imaging device.

BACKGROUND: Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is the most common cancer among men in several Eastern African countries, yet treatment monitoring relies on imprecise, time-consuming ruler-based measurements defined by the AIDS Clinical Trial Group (ACTG). This method suffers from inter-observer variability, fails to capture lesion height or true geometric area, and performs poorly on dark skin. SkinScan3D (SS3D) is a portable, low-cost, AI-enabled 3D imaging device that provides objective measurements of KS skin lesion area, height, volume, and color. The Precision Imaging to Evaluate Kaposi Sarcoma (PRIME-K

Artificial intelligence-enhanced three-dimensional radiological analysis for predicting spread through air spaces in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma.

OBJECTIVES: Spread through air space (STAS) is a pathological feature that correlates with poor prognosis, especially in patients with lung adenocarcinoma undergoing sublobar resection. The microscopic nature of STAS complicates direct detection using preoperative radiological imaging. We aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) imaging model to preoperatively predict STAS in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma. METHODS: This retrospective study included 364 patients with stage 0-IA3 lung adenocarcinoma who underwent complete surgic…

A pharmacist-overseen, artificial intelligence-enabled model for provider-side prior authorization: From burden to opportunity (PAVE-1).

Prior authorization (PA) imposes substantial administrative burdens on clinicians, contributing to burnout, delayed care, and excess health care spending. Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a tool to automate PA tasks in managed care pharmacy, yet concerns persist regarding transparency, bias, and overreliance on autonomous systems. This is particularly true in payer-deployed AI systems that may deny claims without adequate clinical review. This viewpoint proposes a pharmacist-overseen, AI-enabled system designed for provider organizations and health systems as an optimal model, integ…
