The purpose of the study was to define α-2-macroglobulin (α-2M) and α-1-proteinase inhibitor (α-1PI) in tissues of malignant tumors and polyps of the lower parts of the colon. 28 patients had malignant tumors of the sigmoid colon or rectum (T3N0-1M0-2), 29 had polyps of the same location. In the last decade, we have found an increased incidence of gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies among Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients. We discuss the case of a 30-year-old woman of mixed descent, with CF, who was referred to the emergency department for persistent abdominal pain and constipation, complicated by blood-streaked stools. On physical examination, her abdomen was soft, nontender, and without organomegaly or palpable masses. Rectal examination was unrevealing. The patient's initial laboratory evaluation revealed a hemoglobin level of 11.7g/dl. A CT scan of the abdomen was unremarkable.

Colostomy is a commonly performed procedure in the neonatal period but the procedure is frequently underestimated. This report is aimed at raising awareness to technical errors made in performing the procedure. We experienced 5 cases of liver metastases from colorectal cancer, in which hepatic resection was carried out after down sizing by hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy. In addition, a histological study about the effect of chemotherapy on the liver tumor was performed. Primary lesions were located at the sigmoid colon (2), cecum (1), descending colon (1) and rectum (1). We carried out hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy using mainly 5-FU. Thirty-nine hospital-based cases of ischemic colitis were reviewed. There were 18 males and 21 females. Average age was 68.7 years (range, 18 to 92 years). Associated diseases among 13 patients younger than 65 included renal failure in seven patients and hematologic, vasculitic, or collagen vascular diseases in four. Of 518 patients undergoing the ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA), 17 (13 with chronic ulcerative colitis [CUC] and four with familial polyposis coli [FPC] ) also had a total of 22 cancers of the colorectum.
