Attributable Fraction of Epstein-Barr Virus in Subtypes of Lymphoma: A Systematic Review and Global Meta-Analysis.

There is evidence for a causal role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a known carcinogen, in an increasing number of lymphoma subtypes, but a systematic evaluation of EBV attributable fraction is lacking. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of EBV prevalence in lymphoma subtypes from 1990 to 2024, stratified by HIV status and geographical region. For each subtype, we calculated pooled prevalence and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of EBV, measured by EBV-encoded RNA in situ hybridisation. 307 eligible studies, including > 21,140 lymphoma cases, were included. In HIV-nega

Effect of Clinical, Endoscopic, Radiological Findings, and Complications on Survival in Patients with Primary Gastrointestinal Lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical, endoscopic, and radiological characteristics, complications, survival outcomes, and prognostic factors of patients with primary gastrointestinal lymphoma. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the demographic, laboratory, endoscopic, and radiological characteristics and treatment outcomes of 43 patients with newly diagnosed primary gastrointestinal lymphoma. RESULTS: The median age was 62 years (range: 26-83). The primary lesion location was the gastric in 33 (77%) patients and the intestinal in 10 (23%) patients. The

The Changing Landscape of Lymphoma Associated with HIV Infection.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Cancer remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in HIV-infected individuals, with aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma as the most frequent one. However, the introduction of modern antiretroviral therapy (ART) drastically improved treatment options and prognosis in HIV-associated lymphomas. This review summarized the current treatment landscape and future challenges in HIV-positive patients with non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphoma. RECENT FINDINGS: Selecting the appropriate therapy for the individual patient, diffuse-large B cell lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, and Hodg

An electron microscopic study of malignant lymphomas; with special reference to undifferentiated type.

Nine cases of malignant lymphomas of undifferentiated type, which is difficult to classify whether they are derived from reticulum cell or lymphocyte by light microscopy, were collected and studied by electron microscopic and histopathological examinations, and calssified into two types from electron microscopic findings. Some characteristic features, including cellular size and shape, and quantity and quality of cytoplasmic and nuclear structures at the electron microscopic level, were compared between the two types of lymphomas with similarity to reticulum cell and to lymphoblastic cell. Mutations of the 5' noncoding region of the BCL-6 gene in primary bone lymphomas.

Somatic point mutations of the 5' noncoding region of the BCL-6 gene have been described as genetic alterations in non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL). They are more frequent in diffuse large B cell (DLBCL) and follicular lymphomas (FL). This study aims to analyse the presence and distribution of BCL-6 gene mutations in a large series of primary bone lymphomas (PBL), a rare extranodal presentation of NHL frequently associated with diffuse large cell morphology. Fifty-three cases of PBL were examined. Mutations were detected with non-radioisotopic polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation po

p37Ing1b regulates B-cell proliferation and cooperates with p53 to suppress diffuse large B-cell lymphomagenesis.

The Inhibitor of Growth (ING) gene family encodes structurally related proteins that alter chromatin to regulate gene expression and cell growth. The initial member, ING1, has also been proposed to function as a tumor suppressor in human cancer based on its ability to suppress cell growth and transformation in vitro. Mouse Ing1 produces two proteins (p31 and p37) from differentially spliced transcripts. We have recently generated p37(Ing1b)-null mice and observed spontaneous follicular B-cell lymphomagenesis in this model to show that ING proteins can function in vivo as tumor suppressors. In
