Recovery of phosphorous from industrial waste water by oxidation and precipitation.

This paper describes the development of a method for recovery of phosphorous from one of the waste waters at an Akzo Nobel chemical plant in Ale close to Göteborg. It was found that it is possible to transform the phosphorous in the waste water to a saleable product, i.e. a slowly dissolving fertilizer. The developed process includes oxidation of phosphite to phosphate with hydrogen peroxide and heat. Two-screw osteosynthesis of the mandibular condylar head with different screw materials: a finite element analysis.

This study compared the biomechanical behavior of titanium, magnesium, and polylactic acid screws for two-screw osteosynthesis of mandibular condylar head fractures using finite element analysis. Von Mises stress distribution, fracture displacement, and fragment deformation were evaluated. Titanium screws performed the best in terms of carrying the highest load, resulting in the least fracture displacement and fragment deformation. Iatrogenic acute hypermagnesemia after total parenteral nutrition infusion mimicking septic shock syndrome: two case reports.

Two premature newborn infants developed extreme magnesium toxicity while receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN) infusion. Both patients exhibited acute hypotonia, apnea, hypotension, and refractory bradycardia mimicking septic shock syndrome. The complete blood count was normal, and blood cultures were negative. Hypomagnesemia in diabetic children.

Serum concentrations of iron, copper, zinc and magnesium were determined in 27 Swedish children with well controlled diabetes without longterm diabetic complications. Thirteen of the diabetic children had age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Significantly lower serum magnesium concentrations were found in the diabetic children than in the matched healthy controls (p less than 0.01). The levels of iron, copper and zinc did not differ in the diabetic children from those in the controls. Between January 1996 and June 1998, 24 children with symptomatic hypomagnesemia were enrolled for analysis of their symptomatology, causes, and treatment outcome.
