Changes in students' self-reported psychological flexibility scores and teacher-rated behavioral difficulties during a year-long, teacher-delivered social-emotional learning curriculum based on acceptance and commitment therapy.

This study examined longitudinal changes and social validity during implementation of a culturally adapted, teacher-delivered social-emotional learning curriculum grounded in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA) in Czech public primary schools. Participants were 448 children in Grades 2-5 from 23 classrooms across 10 schools. The year-long program was implemented as part of routine classroom practice, with assessments at baseline, midyear, and post-implementation. Students completed a shortened Czech adaptation of the Children's Psychological Flexibility

Patient and Family Outcomes of Psychological Interventions in Integrated Pediatric Primary Care.

OBJECTIVE: To assess patient and family outcomes of psychological interventions provided by behavioral health clinicians (BHCs) integrated into community-based pediatric primary care practices. Little is known about the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of this treatment strategy in real-world settings. METHODS: The sample comprised 5487 patients in ∼80 practices who received psychological interventions from ∼100 integrated BHCs over 2 years. Patients of all ages identified by universal screening or verbal patient/family report as having a developmental or behavioral health (BH) p

Batterer typologies: substance use, impulsivity and results of an IPVAW offender treatment program in Spain.

INTRODUCTION: Batterer impulsivity and substance use are relevant factors in the study of gender violence. Impulsivity is defined by the tendency to act suddenly and without forethought. Combined with drunkenness, it can materially increase the likelihood of intimate partner violence. METHODS: The present study examines substance use and impulsivity among a sample of 243 men convicted of IPVAW offences under the Spanish Gender Violence Act (Organic Law 1/2004) in relation to the levels of violence and psychopathologies presented by these perpetrators, in order to understand the results of cou

Pathways from prenatal cocaine exposure to adult substance use and behavior.

This is a report from the most recent adult follow-up of the longest running cohort study of prenatal cocaine exposure (PCE), in which women were enrolled prenatally and offspring were assessed in infancy, childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. In previous studies, PCE was linked to offspring behavior problems such as early substance use and externalizing behavior problems. The current analyses examine pathways from PCE to behavioral outcomes in offspring at the 25-year assessment. Prenatal cocaine exposure was moderate in this cohort; most women decreased or discontinued use after the f

Novel variants in TNRC6B cause global developmental delay with speech and behavioral abnormalities, short stature, low body weight, café-au-lait spots, and metabolic abnormality.

BACKGROUND: TNRC6B deficiency syndrome, also known as global developmental delay with speech and behavioral abnormalities (MIM 619243), is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease mainly characterized by facial dysmorphism, developmental delay/intellectual disability (DD/ID), speech and language delay, fine and motor delay, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and variable behavioral abnormalities. It is caused by heterozygous variant in the TNRC6B gene (NM_001162501.2, MIM 610740), which encodes the trinucleotide repeat-containing adaptor 6B protein. METHODS: In this study,

Agreement between mother, father, and teacher ratings of cognitive disengagement syndrome (sluggish cognitive tempo) in children with autism and children with ADHD.

No studies have analyzed differences between mother, father, and teacher ratings of cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS; formerly sluggish cognitive tempo). The sample included 1,115 children with autism and/or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) 4-16 years of age who were rated by mothers on the Pediatric Behavior Scale. Subsets of these children were also rated by fathers and/or teachers, resulting in 896 mother/father, 964 mother/teacher, and 745 father/teacher dyads. The CDS factor comprised four items assessing the core features of CDS: cognitive disengagement (in a fog/conf

Birth, cognitive and behavioral effects of intrauterine cannabis exposure in infants and children: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive component of cannabis, has been implicated in affecting fetal neurodevelopment by readily crossing the placenta. However, little is known regarding the long-term effects of intrauterine cannabis exposure. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized prospective and cross-sectional human studies to measure the effects of intrauterine cannabis exposure on birth, behavioral, psychological and cognitive outcomes in infancy until early childhood. METHODS: Reporting according to the Preferred Reporting Items for

Transactional sex among rural, justice-involved Appalachian women who use drugs.

PURPOSE: Transactional sex is associated with an array of other health risk behaviors and adverse health outcomes, including HIV. However, despite concerns regarding a potential HIV outbreak, there is limited understanding of transactional sex among rural Appalachians who engage in high-risk behaviors. Thus, the current study describes the prevalence and correlates of transactional sex among a sample of rural, justice-involved Appalachian women who use drugs. METHODS: Participants (N = 400) were randomly selected, screened, and interviewed face-to-face at 3 rural Appalachian jails in Kentucky

Moderators of long-term treatment outcome when comparing two group interventions for adolescents with ADHD: who benefits more from DBT-based skills training?

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial interventions for adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), targeting emotional dysregulation and impulsive behaviors, have been requested, but the heterogeneity within this group makes it unlikely that there is one treatment that fits all. The aim of this study was to identify which adolescents with ADHD might have an effect from a structured skills training group (SSTG) based on dialectical behavioral therapy, by exploring pre-treatment characteristics as potential moderators of long-term treatment outcome. METHODS: This study was based on fo

Prenatal exposure to air pollution and maternal stress predict infant individual differences in reactivity and regulation and socioemotional development.

BACKGROUND: Humans are ubiquitously exposed to air pollutants including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Although most studies of prenatal exposures have focused on psychopathology in childhood or adolescence, the effects of air pollutants on early emerging individual differences in reactivity and regulation are of growing concern. Our study is the first to report effects of prenatal exposure to PAH and maternal stress on infant reactivity and regulation. METHODS: Participants included 153 infants (74 girls and 79 boys). Prenatal exposure to PAH was measured via personal air monitoring

Welfare assessment of horses and mules used in recreational and muleteer work in the Colombian coffee region.

The welfare of working equids in developing countries is sometimes threatened due to the limited resources and/or knowledge of their owners. The objective of this study is to evaluate the welfare of creole horses and mules using a validated protocol that assesses animal-based indicators. A total of 160 horses and 40 mules from three municipalities in the Colombian coffee-growing region were evaluated by means of direct observation of health and behavioral parameters. A descriptive analysis of the variables expressed in proportions was performed. Interactions between the different measurements

Childbirth related PTSD and its association with infant outcome: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Maternal postnatal mental health problems may negatively impact child development. Postpartum research has mainly focused on the impact of maternal depression and anxiety due to their high prevalence (13-25 % and 10-18 %, respectively). However, maternal childbirth-related PTSD (CB-PTSD) could be another important risk factor in child development (estimated prevalence: 4.7 %). OBJECTIVE: We investigated whether maternal CB-PTSD (symptoms) are associated with a negative mother-child relationship and/or child developmental outcome for children aged 0-5 years. Furthermore, we exami

Adolescents amid the COVID-19 pandemic: a prospective study of psychological functioning.

BACKGROUND: The spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the accompanying countermeasures can significantly impact the wellbeing of adolescents. There is a lack of longitudinal studies that can shed light on potential social, emotional, and behavioral development in adolescents. We aimed to identify potential changes in adolescent psychosocial functioning from pre-pandemic to peri-pandemic assessment, and secondly, to identify specific patterns of change. METHODS: This longitudinal study was based on a Lithuanian community sample of 331 adolescents aged 12-16 at T1 (M  =  13.87, SD  =  1.

Non-pharmacological Treatment for Elderly Individuals With Insomnia: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis.

Background: Insomnia causes a huge socioeconomic burden among the elderly, and is not simply a health problem. This study aimed to determine the comparative advantage of the effectiveness and acceptability of non-pharmacological interventions available for elderly individuals with insomnia. Methods: Comprehensive searches in 13 medical databases were performed to find relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to August 2019. Two independent reviewers performed study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment of included RCTs using the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias. A netw

The lump-versus-split dilemma in couple observational coding: A multisite analysis of rapid marital interaction coding system data.

Historically, observational couple communication researchers have oscillated between splitting behaviors into narrowly defined discrete codes and grouping behaviors into broader codes-sometimes within the same study. We label this the "lump-versus-split dilemma." Coding across a decade and 11 investigators were used to recommend the most meaningful number of codes to use when observing couples' conflict. We combined data from 14 studies that used the Rapid Marital Interaction Coding System (RMICS) to score communication behavior during different-sex couples' conflict interactions. In each stud

International classification of functioning, disability and health framework (ICF) based adaptive functioning outcomes of children with organic acidemias from a middle-income country.

OBJECTIVE: The World Health Organization International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Framework (ICF) states that a child's health conditions, functions, activities, participation in life and contextual factors shape disability. Research on the development of children with organic acidemias (OA) mostly focused on cognitive and medical outcomes. This study aimed to examine adaptive functioning of children with OAs based on ICF. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, children with propionic academia, methylmalonic acidemia and maple syrup urine disease receiving care at A

Patterns of polysubstance use and simultaneous co-use in high risk young adults.

BACKGROUND: Polysubstance use (PSU) is associated with worse prognosis and poorer physical and mental health compared to single substance use. The current study provides information about PSU patterns by examining a diverse range of alcohol/substance use behaviors ranging from low-level experimentation to indicators of severe abuse. In addition, the current study, for the first time, examines how simultaneous co-use of multiple substances cluster with other more commonly studied PSU behaviors. METHODS: Latent Class Analysis was used to identify patterns of substance use, in a sample of young-

The influence of motives on alcohol- and sex-related behaviors among female college students.

PURPOSE: Although previous studies have elucidated associations between motivations for drinking and sex as they relate to risky health outcomes among female college students, the utility of cross-domain motives (i.e., alcohol motives predicting sex-related outcomes and vice versa) in the prediction of specific alcohol- and sex-related behaviors has yet to be examined. The current study examined relations between drinking and sex motives with multiple risky alcohol- and sex-related outcomes (i.e., alcohol consumption, alcohol-related problems, alcohol consumption prior to sexual intercourse, n
