PURPOSE: The author reports the results of visual and binocular tests performed on patients who had primary insertion of intraocular lenses following the removal of cataracts in their childhood.
METHODS: Monocular and binocular tests were performed on 21 patients using the same equipment for sensory testing for binocularity on all patients before the history was abstracted from the clinical records. PURPOSE: To assess axis alignment and stability of the Toric Implantable Collamer Lens (TICL; STAAR Surgical Co) over time.
METHODS: Thirty-five consecutive eyes of 19 patients received the TICL for treatment of myopic astigmatism. Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) and manifest refractive cylinder were measured preoperatively and at 3 months postoperatively. The axis alignment of the TICL was measured using the internal OPD map obtained with the OPD-Scan II (NIDEK Co Ltd).

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses are widely available. Residual ametropia is one of the most common issues that can result in patient dissatisfaction. Options for correcting refractive surprises include piggyback intraocular lens implantation, corneal incisional surgery and laser correction. OBJECTIVE: To study the postoperative visual function and uptake of refraction and second-eye surgery among persons undergoing cataract surgery in rural China.
METHODS: Self-reported visual function was measured 10 to 14 months after surgery. Subjects with improvement of 2 or more lines with refraction were offered glasses, and those with significant cataract were offered second-eye surgery.

In this sample of craniofrontonasal dysplasia, a 44.4% prevalence of visual impairment was observed, with more than half being due to potentially correctable causes of visual loss, including amblyopia and anisometropia. High prevalences of strabismus (88.9%) and V-pattern (55.5%) in craniofrontonasal dysplasia were also demonstrated. All three patients who underwent strabismus surgery showed improvement in ocular alignment postoperatively. This group needs regular eye examinations to assess for visual impairment and provide timely intervention for modifiable causes of visual loss.
