The chance germinal encounter with the first lecture outside Africa on Burkitt lymphoma is described together with the hypothesis of a viral cause. Repeated virological investigations on lymphoma biopsies proved negative, leading to the idea that a latent virus might be activated if lymphoma cells could be cultured, although no human lymphoid cell had at that time ever been maintained in vitro. Here we describe the first case of symptomatic Lichen planus oesophagitis that was successfully treated with topical budesonide. Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the skin and mucous membranes which is in some cases associated with oesophageal involvement and dysphagia. The interaction of the VO2+ cation with the sodium salt of 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (DMPS) was investigated by electron absorption spectroscopy in aqueous solution, in the pH range between 4 and 12. The spectral behavior points to the generation of a [VO(DMPS)2](4-) complex in which the oxocation interacts with two pairs of deprotonated -SH groups of the ligand. By spectrophotometric monitoring it was found that DMPS rapidly reduces vanadates(V) to VO2+ which may be chelated by an excess of the acid. We assessed the predictive value of D-dimer (D-d) and residual venous obstruction (RVO), alone or in combination, for recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) over a 2-year follow-up in a cohort of 88 cancer patients after oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT) withdrawal following a first episode of proximal deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs. RVO, determined by compression ultrasonography on the day of OAT suspension (T1), and abnormal D-d (cut-off value: 500 ng/mL), measured at T1 and 30+/-10 days afterwards, are independent risk factors for recurrent VTE in cancer patients.

In this follow-up study a light-cured glass ionomer lining cement was evaluated as a cavity-sealing material in calcium hydroxide pulpotomies in primary molars after one and two years. The pulpotomy dressing was a suspension of pure calcium hydroxide with either tap water or sterile saline. A subacute toxicity study of a potent tetanus toxoid (250 Lf) was carried out in guinea pigs. The toxoid was injected subcutaneously at the nape of the neck at dose levels of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 ml in Groups II, III, and IV, respectively. In the controls (Group I) 2.0 ml of aluminum phosphate suspension was given in each injection. Six male patients with extensive psoriasis, resistant to conventional treatment, were treated orally with low-dose Cyclosporin A (CsA) (5 mg/kg/day). One patient had generalized pustular psoriasis, three psoriatic erythroderma, and two disseminated chronic plaque psoriasis. All patients, with the exception of one, were treated for at least twelve weeks. Nearly complete remission was obtained in four cases. Hand burns in children represent a severe and possibly deforming injury. This study evaluated 82 patients for type of burn, prognostic indicators, and treatment as it affected function and appearance.
