Ibuprofen inhibits localized bone resorption in the middle ear.

Localized osteoclastic bone resorption plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of several diseases of the middle ear as well as orthodontic tooth movement and long bone remodeling. The mechanisms of control of localized bone loss and systemic bone resorption may be different but both may be mediated by a final common pathway which includes prostaglandins. Prostaglandins seem to have a predominantly stimulatory effect on bone resorption, although the exact mechanism is poorly understood. Ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, is known to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins. I

Robust classification of dental tissues using LIBS data based on data reconstruction and distance prior strategy.

Modern dental procedures primarily rely on visual inspection and tactile feedback to distinguish enamel from dentin, which may result in irreversible loss of healthy tissue due to excessive preparation. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) offers potential for intraoperative tissue identification, but its single-pulse signals are affected by laser energy fluctuations and dental-tissue matrix effects. This study proposes a robust LIBS-based classification method integrating interactive spectral reconstruction with a hydroxyapatite (HAP) spectral-distance prior. A multi-scale sliding-wind

Bio inspired assessment of titanium-organic framework and exosome-constructed p-Synephrine carriage: pursuing the PI3K/mTOR pathway in a simulated periodontitis.

Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease, is driven by bacterial infection and oxidative stress, leading to tissue destruction and potential tooth loss. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of p-Synephrine and enhanced delivery through NH2-MIL-125 and exosomes derived from dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). Primary Normal Human Gingival Keratinocytes (PCS) and Gingival Fibroblasts (HGF) were divided into eight groups, including controls, induction with LPS, and treatments with NH2-MIL-125, exosomes, free p-Synephrine, p-Synephrine-loaded NH2-MIL-125 (P-SYN-…

Preparation of apigenin-loaded microspheres and their effects against Porphyromonas gingivalis.

Periodontal disease is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults, and current drug treatments are limited by issues such as drug resistance and short duration of action. This study aimed to prepare apigenin-loaded PLGA microspheres (AM) with sustained-release properties and evaluate their physicochemical characteristics as well as their antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities against Porphyromonas gingivalis, a key pathogen in periodontitis. AM were prepared using a solvent evaporation method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR…

Current Developments in Antibacterial Nanoparticle-Based Dental Composite Materials: A Comprehensive Overview.

The persistence of secondary caries, biofilm accumulation, and hybrid layer degradation as leading causes of failure in resin-based composite (RBC) restorations underscores the urgent need for materials that can effectively prevent demineralization and promote the remineralization of dental hard tissues. Conventional composites are primarily bioinert, offer minimal defense against cariogenic biofilms, and lack the ability to restore mineral loss at the tooth-restoration interface. Recent advancements in nanotechnology have paved the way for the development of antibacterial and bioactive compos

Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation for Managing Dental Anxiety in Children: A Systematic Review.

Dental anxiety is common among children and frequently leads to avoidance of dental treatment, premature tooth loss, and broader health concerns such as bite misalignment. This systematic review examines nitrous oxide-oxygen (N₂O/O₂) and oral sedation (e.g., midazolam, hydroxyzine) as minimally invasive options for children aged 2-12 years, using the Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome (PICO) framework to guide analysis. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020, we searched PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus (2015-2025), inc…

The Promise and Challenges of Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Periodontal Disease.

Periodontal disease represents a major global health burden, beginning with gingivitis and progressing to periodontitis, which causes connective tissue breakdown, alveolar bone resorption, and eventual tooth loss. Beyond local pathology, periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition with systemic associations, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and metabolic disorders. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as promising candidates for periodontal regeneration. This review aimed to map the current evidence on MSC-derived EVs (MSC-EVs) in p…

Restorative potential of laser-synthesized silver nanoparticles with Salvia officinalis for periodontal disease treatment: an in vitro study.

Periodontal disease is one of the most prevalent human pathologies initiated by microbial dysbiosis and the inflammatory reaction that leads to gingival fibroblasts apoptosis, connective tissue damage, and atrophy, resulting in tooth loss. Beyond local damage, systemic associations highlight the urgent need for innovative therapies. Herein, we present an eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by picosecond pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL), using Salvia officinalis aqueous extract (sage extract) as both medium and stabilizer. AgNPs were synthesized at two laser pulse energ…

Biological mechanisms governing the periodontal regenerative microenvironment: cellular crosstalk, extracellular matrix remodelling, and immunomodulation.

Periodontal regeneration is no longer viewed as the simple replacement of lost alveolar bone, but as the reprogramming of a diseased regenerative niche. Predictable repair requires coordinated reconstruction of cementum, periodontal ligament (PDL), and alveolar bone within a chronically infected, inflamed, and mechanically loaded microenvironment. Unlike regeneration in bone, skin or muscle, periodontal regeneration requires reconstruction of an integrated cementum-PDL-bone unit. Success therefore depends not on repair of a single tissue compartment, but on coordinated cementogenesis, PDL fibr

Advanced immunodiagnostics for periodontal disease: Targeted detection of Kgp and RgpB using A7 and G1 antibody set.

INTRODUCTION: Periodontal disease, primarily caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis, leads to chronic inflammation and eventual tooth loss, with systemic health implications. Current diagnostic methods rely on clinical assessment, which is insufficiently sensitive for detecting early-stage disease and cannot directly identify specific pathogens or virulence factors. Consequently, developing rapid, sensitive, and specific diagnostic tools targeting key virulence factors such as gingipains (Kgp and RgpB) is critically needed. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop monoclonal antibodies (A7 and G1)…

Assessing the reliability of an integrated device measuring tongue pressure and bite force among dentate individuals - An observational study.

BACKGROUND: Tooth loss leading to complete edentulism negatively impacts quality of life and oral function. Reduced biting force capability affects normal oral function in those who have lost teeth. Decreased tongue pressure significantly affects total oromotor function, especially swallowing. While devices exist to measure biting force and tongue pressure independently, integrated evaluation tools are lacking. This emphasizes developing a reliable integrated tool for simultaneous evaluation. Purpose: To evaluate the reliability of an integrated device designed to measure tongue pressure and b…

3D Printed Patient-Specific Resorbable Bone Scaffolds for Alveolar Bone Regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Alveolar bone loss following trauma, periodontal disease, congenital anomalies, or tooth extraction poses a major challenge for oral rehabilitation, especially in implant dentistry. Traditional grafting techniques using autografts, allografts, or xenografts provide limited predictability due to issues of resorption, donor morbidity, and immune incompatibility. Advances in three-dimensional (3D) printing now enable preparation of patient-specific biodegradable scaffolds designed using 3D imaging, like cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computer-aided design (CAD), allowing pre
