The genotypes of the children of R1r, R2r, and R1R2 fathers, and Rh-immunized rr mothers, were examined. R1r fathers had an excess of R1r over rr children, and R1R2 fathers had an excess of R1 r over R2r children. These asymmetries confirm the findings of a previous study. The possibilities of artefactual self-selection, of genotyping errors, and of errors in assigning paternity, were examined and excluded. Alternative models of genetic transmission and of antigenic structure were studied, but no basis for explaining the findings was found or formulated. Three possible biological explanations

The article is devoted to features of prenatal development of children with intestinal malrotation. Mass, height, head and chest circumferences of children after birth have been studied. In addition all associated malformations, a blood group (ABO system) and the rhesus-factor have been investigated. In comparison to the control group of newborn the disorders of prenatal development have included associated malformations, low anthropometric data after birth, decreasing of pA gene frequency. Notable, children with intestinal malrotation have had high frequency of malformations as in the abdomin

BACKGROUND: Our study aimed to enhance the efficiency and sensitivity of the 56°C heat-elution test, minimize he-molysis in the eluate, and improve detection of A/B/H weak antigens. To achieve this, we developed a novel, simplified heat-elution solution: the glycine/sodium chloride/glycerin mixture (GSG).
METHODS: We monitored the osmotic pressure, pH changes, and bacterial growth of GSG over a 10-week period, comparing it to fresh solution and 6% calf serum. Additionally, we assessed GSG's antibody concentration, sensitivity, specificity, hemolysis degree, and antibody preservation against 6

BACKGROUND: Allocating incompatible platelet components to avoid product wastage must be balanced against the risk of reduced efficacy and adverse outcomes. The impact of platelet compatibility in association with product irradiation or pathogen reduction is unknown. This study aims to determine the combined and independent impact of platelet compatibility and component modification on transfusion reaction rate.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A retrospective review of all adult platelet transfusions from 2020 to 2022 was performed, including all reported reactions. Logistic regression was performe

ABO group testing is critical for allogeneic stem cell transplantation because mismatches can cause both transfusion and engraftment challenges. Even with ABO-matched donor-recipient pairs, ABO group determination may provide valuable insight into allograft status. Herein, we report a case of a 76-year-old female patient with myeloid neoplasm who underwent ABO-matched stem cell transplantation and in whom mixed-field ABO antigen expression during routine follow-up testing post-transplantation was the first sign of a change in transplant graft status; the mixed-field findings pre-dated changes

INTRODUCTION: Early antibody-mediated rejection has been reported to increase chronic antibody-mediated rejection and decrease graft survival in kidney transplantation. However, the impact of early antibody-mediated rejection in ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation remains unclear.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed living-donor kidney transplantation patients from two Korean centers. Patients were categorized based on ABO compatibility and early antibody-mediated rejection within 1 year. The primary outcome was chronic antibody-mediated rejection. The secondary outcomes were production

BACKGROUND: To investigate the safety of using ABO incompatible (ABO-i) liver grafts in pediatric patients under our prophylactic strategies.
METHODS: A total number of 544 pediatric liver transplantations between January 2013 and December 2017 performed in Organ Transplant Center, Tianjin First Central Hospital were included in this study. The recipients were divided into 3 groups based on the compatibility of donor-recipient blood type matching (ABO-identical group, n = 352, ABO-compatible group, n = 121 and ABO-incompatible group, n = 71). Recipient characteristics, perioperative data, pos

Human ovarian cyst glycoproteins (HOC, cyst gps) isolated from pseudomucinous type of human ovarian cyst fluids is one of the richest and pioneer sources for studying biosynthesis, structures and functional roles of blood group ABH, Lea,b,x,y, sLea and sLex active glycoproteins. After 70+ years of exploration, four top highlights are shared. (i) an updated concept of glycotopes and their internal structures in cyst gps was composited; (ii) the unknown codes of new genes in secreted cyst gps were unlocked as Lex and Ley; (iii) recognition profiles of cyst glycans and a sialic acid-rich (18%) gl

OBJECTIVES: To study the rate of ABO haemolytic anaemia of fetus and newborn (HDFN) in one institution over 6 years.
BACKGROUND: ABO major incompatibility between mothers and their newborns occurs in about 10% of births. So, mothers with an O blood group may form IgG-class antibodies against A and B antigens, which could pass across the placenta and lead to a variable degree of HDFN in the newborn.
METHODS: At our institution, we have reviewed data regarding ABO-based HDFN in the last 6 years.
RESULTS: We found that, in 28 089 deliveries, an ABO major incompatibility between mothers and new

Since the introduction of intentional ABO-incompatible (ABOi) cardiac transplantation in infants in the late 1990's, the number of patients listed for and undergoing ABOi transplants has increased. This practice has been shown to lead to a reduction in waiting list mortality and increased utilisation of donor organs with equivalent outcomes to ABO-compatible transplants. Differences in the infant immune system provide a window of opportunity for ABOi transplantation. However it is increasingly clear that older patients and those with significant amounts of blood group antibody specific isohaem

BACKGROUND: ABO-incompatible live transplantation (ILT) is not occasionally performed due to a relative high risk of graft failure. Knowledge of both graft and patient survival rate after ILT is essential for donor selection and therapeutic strategy. We systematically reviewed studies containing outcomes after ILT compared to that after ABO-compatible liver transplantation (CLT).
METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We carried out a comprehensive search strategy on MEDLINE (1966-July 2010), EMBASE (1980-July 2010), Biosis Preview (1969-July 2010), Science Citation Index (1981-July 2010), Cochrane

A 5-year-old girl died some minutes after starting to receive a transfusion of blood, without having previously typed her blood group or that of the donor, who were both supposedly of group 0. Blood groups were investigated in pharynx tissues taken 10 days after her death using the immunofluorescence technique and counter-staining with p-phenylenediamine. It was discovered that the girl was of blood group B and that the transfusion was of blood group A, hence a transfusion error as cause of death is proposed. A field of great medicolegal interest is opened by using immunofluorescent techniques

We studied the ABO haemolytic disease of the newborn in our neonatal unit to consider their serological aspects and clinical importance. 21% of all pregnancies were ABO incompatibles. The direct antiglobulin test was positive in 46 (11.3%) of them. The Elution was positive in all the newborns with direct antiglobulin test positive (Cd+). The anti-A o anti-B antibodies concentration in mothers was higher than 1/128 in 38 (84%). The C3d complement fraction was activated in two newborns. The infants Cd+ were born to group O mothers in all cases, and nobody was premature. Twelve (26%) of Cd+ prese

The titre of IgG anti-A/B was determined by means of a 2-mercaptoethanol test in the serum of 80 blood group O mothers, who gave birth at term to A/B incompatible infants, who developed early neonatal jaundice with a serum bilirubin level of over 10 mg/100 ml. The titres were compared with the results of the direct antiglobulin test performed on the red cells from the cord blood and the necessity for exchange transfusion. Only in mothers of group A infants, a significant correlation was found between the titre of IgG anti-A and the occurrence of a positive antiglobulin test. In no case the nee
