A 45-year-old male with tongue cancer and obstructive sleep apnea presented for glossectomy and right neck dissection. He underwent a difficult nasal intubation assisted by a bougie and Glidescope. After an otherwise uneventful procedure, the patient was extubated and taken to recovery. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Upper airway nitric oxide (NO) is physiologically important in airway regulation and defense, and can be modulated by various airway inflammatory conditions, including allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis - with and without polyposis. Paranasal sinuses serve as a NO 'reservoir', with concentrations typically exceeding those measured in lower airway (fractional exhaled NO or FeNO) by a few orders of magnitude. However, the dynamics of NO flux between the paranasal sinuses and main nasal airway, which are critical to respiratory NO emission, are poorly understood.

The Lithoclast is an endoscopic lithotriptor which uses the ballistic energy produced by a small hand-held apparatus, by the movement of a small metal part (the projectile) driven by a jet of compressed air. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of malleostapedotomy based on malleus-oval window technique in otosclerosis with malleus/incus mobility disorder.
METHOD: Six cases with malleostapedotomy on stapes footplate fixation accompanied by malleus/incus movements disorder from March 2005 to March 2007 were analyzed retrospectively, when totally 78 cases of conventional stapes surgeries were performed on isolated otosclerosis . The surgical procedures, intraoperative findings and postoperative vertigo as well as pure tone gain were discussed.

Tests for airborne movement of anthrax spores downwind from three heavily contaminated carcass sites were carried out under a range of wind conditions. Anthrax spores were detected in just three of 43 cyclone or gelatin filter air samples taken at distances of 6, 12 and 18 m from the sites. Single target acuity (STA) is a key measure for understanding visual object perception in harbor seals. While STA was already determined with stationary and moving compact single targets of different contrasts in air, we herein assessed underwater STA with the same stimuli as used for aerial testing for comparison.
