[Alveolar ridge preservation after tooth extraction using allograft (Maxgraft®) and full arch fixed prosthetic rehabilitation on implants].

A 69-year-old woman consulted the Oral surgery and implantology unit of the Geneva University Hospitals with the chief complaint of chewing difficulties, aesthetic discomfort and dry mouth. The wish of the patient was to receive a reliable fixed solution in the long term. The patient had chronic nonspecific sialadenitis accompanied by xerostomia. She wore a total prosthesis stabilized on two inter-foraminal implants and had multiple cavities of the remaining maxillary teeth. The goals of treatment were to improve masticatory function with fixed prosthetic rehabilitation on upper and lower impl

Achieving Predictable Facial Bone Reconstruction at Immediate Implant Placement Utilizing the Facial Allograft Shield Technique.

Resorption following tooth loss often presents challenges to both functional and esthetic outcomes of dental implant treatment for lost dentition, especially in the esthetic zone. Inadequate bone volume at the implant site is common, and bone augmentation is often required. While autogenous bone is often preferred, it is not applicable in many cases. This can necessitate multiple surgeries and extended healing times for patients. In such situations an alternate protocol, the facial allograft shield technique using an allogeneic laminar bone membrane, appears to offer a minimally invasive, effe

Measuring the outcomes of lateral ridge augmentation using cone-beam computed tomography.

OBJECTIVES: Lateral ridge augmentation (LRA) is a surgical technique to gain bone prior to implant placement. Performing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) pre- and post-surgery allows for quantitative comparison of the buccal-lingual width and the vertical height of the edentulous ridges. This study used CBCT images to evaluate the bone regeneration following surgery. METHODS: A total of 30 cases from adult patients who underwent LRA and had high-quality CBCT images taken pre- and post-surgery from the same CBCT scanner were available for the retrospective study. Study data included linear

The Fate of Lateral Ridge Augmentation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE: Owing to volumetric changes after tooth extraction, lateral ridge augmentation has become a common procedure prior or simultaneous to implant placement. Nonetheless, little is known with regard to the dimensional remodeling after healing of these lateral ridge augmentation procedures. Hence, the purpose of this systematic review was to assess the stability of bone grafting material between augmentation procedures and final healing, in terms of resorption rate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An electronic and hand literature search was conducted in several databases, such as the Cochrane Oral

[Bone harvesting from the oral cavity].

Autogenous bone grafts have been used successfully in combination with osseointegration and have shown several advantages as compared with other regenerative techniques in the restoration of bone volume for implant placement. Minor bone defects of periodontal, traumatic, and endodontic origins can easily be corrected by harvesting the bone intraorally. Also, sinus grafting procedures can be performed using inlay bone blocks from the mandibular symphysis. Mandibular and maxillary bone can be used as a whole block or can be ground into particulate size and grafted. The harvesting techniques shou

Occlusal reconstruction of a patient with ameloblastoma ablation using alveolar distraction osteogenesis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma is one of the most common benign odontogenic neoplasms. Its surgical excision has the potential to lead to postoperative malocclusion. In this case report, we describe the successful interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment of a patient with ameloblastoma who underwent marginal mandibulectomy. CASE PRESENTATION: A woman of 20-year-old was diagnosed with ameloblastoma, and underwent marginal mandibulectomy when she was 8 years of age. She had an excessive overjet (11.5 mm) and a mild open bite (- 1.5 mm) with a severely resorbed atrophic edentulous ridge in the area ar
