Transitions in sexual behaviour among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in England: Data from a prospective study.

The effectiveness of population-level intervention for HIV elimination is influenced by individual-level variation in sexual behaviour. We assess within-person changes in the frequency of condomless anal sex with two or more partners (CLS2+), estimate the transition probabilities and examine the predictors of transitions among a prospective cohort of HIV-negative gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). Participants were recruited through one of three sexual health clinics in London and Brighton (July 2013 to April 2016) and self-completed a baseline paper questionnaire in t

Mpox vaccine eligibility, uptake and coverage among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The 2022 multi-country mpox outbreak predominantly affected gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM). As a small country distant from transmission hotspots but vulnerable to imported cases, New Zealand's (NZ) response involved numerous challenges, including low vaccine supplies and lack of regulatory approval, prohibiting vaccine promotion and inhibiting vaccine delivery. We triangulated data sources to estimate mpox vaccine eligibility among GBM. National Immunisation Register data was used to estimate mpox vaccine coverage. Finally, we estimated the probability of a resurgent

Contextual barriers to PrEP uptake and continuation among young Black gay and bisexual men who have sex with men living in the South.

Young, Black Gay, and Bisexual men who have sex with men (YBGBM) are disproportionately impacted by HIV, especially in Southern United States. We conducted a cross-sectional survey (Feb19-Mar20). Eligibility criteria were self-reported age 16-29 years, HIV-negative, Black race, and cis-gender male. We assessed associations between demographics, religiosity, intersectional stigma, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use (never, previous or current) among YBGBM in Alabama. Univariate and multivariable multinomial logistic regression models were fit with factors selected a priori, guided by a con

"Do all bisexuals have this power?": An exploratory study of "crippling nicotine addiction," identity, and other emergent themes in vaping messages on QueerTok.

OBJECTIVES: In the United States, Pacific Islanders have a high documented prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress yet report low use of mental health services. Little is known about their risk and protective factors against psychological distress, such as self-stigma and social support. The aim of the current study was to investigate how perceived levels of social support and levels of self-stigma moderate mental health outcomes (depression, anxiety, and stress). METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Southern California from May 2018 to June 2019 of 213 Pacific Islanders ag

A Qualitative Account of Coping Following Non-Consensual Sexual Experiences among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men.

Sexual consent among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) has not been thoroughly documented in the academic literature. Research has suggested that GBMSM incur a greater risk for experiencing non-consensual sexual experiences (NSEs) compared to heterosexual, cis-gendered men. Despite the high prevalence of NSEs impacting this population, little research has been conducted on how GBMSM cope after NSEs. The purpose of this study was to examine how GBMSM cope following NSEs. Responses were analyzed from 206 GBMSM, aged 18-77 (M = 31.84), recruited across Canada. Participant

Promoting Smoking Cessation Among Lesbian and Bisexual Women: Lessons Learned From a Location-Based Media Campaign in Western North Carolina.

Despite well-documented inequities in tobacco use for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations, there is little practical guidance for local public health officials on developing and implementing media campaigns that prioritize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities. In this practice note article, we describe the development and lessons learned from a location-based media campaign to promote tobacco use cessation and raise awareness of QuitlineNC among lesbian and bisexual women in Western North Carolina. The campaign used a digital approach based on cell

Domestic mobility and experiences of disconnection from sexual health care among gay and bisexual men in Australia: insights from a qualitative study.

Background Previous research on mobility and HIV acquisition among gay and bisexual men (GBM) has focused on: (1) changed sexual practices in the context of travel; and (2) the association between migration and increased HIV risk. To date, little attention has been given to continuity of sexual health and HIV-prevention services in the context of relocating between different cities or regions within the same country. Methods Drawing on in-depth interviews with 17 GBM recently diagnosed with HIV, we explored these men's access to sexual health care in the period prior to diagnosis. Results At l

Incorrect Knowledge of Event-Driven PrEP "2-1-1" Dosing Regimen Among PrEP-Experienced Gay and Bisexual Men in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Event-driven pre-exposure prophylaxis (ED-PrEP), when taken according to the "2-1-1" dosing method, is highly effective at preventing HIV acquisition for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM). Any missed doses when using ED-PrEP drastically reduce its effectiveness, so it is vital that people using this method know how to take it correctly. This study investigated Australian GBM's awareness of ED-PrEP and their knowledge of how to take it correctly. METHOD: We conducted a survey of 1471 PrEP-experienced GBM in Australia, between October 2019 and March 2020. The

Intersectional Stigma and Prevention Among Gay, Bisexual, and Same Gender-Loving Men in New York City, 2020: System Dynamics Models.

Objectives. To create causal loop diagrams that characterize intersectional stigma experiences among Black, gay, bisexual, same gender-loving, and other men who have sex with men and to identify intervention targets to reduce stigma and increase testing and prevention access. Methods. Between January and July 2020, we conducted focus groups and in-depth interviews with 80 expert informants in New York City, which were transcribed, coded, and analyzed. These qualitative insights were developed iteratively, visualized, and validated in a causal loop diagram (CLD) using Vensim software. Results.

Assessing the Impact of HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Scale-Up on Gonorrhea Incidence Among Gay and Bisexual Men in Sydney: A Mathematical Modeling Study.

BACKGROUND: The rollout of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men (GBM) is associated with increases in condomless anal intercourse, potentially increasing the incidence of other sexually transmissible infections (STIs). METHODS: We developed an individual-based mathematical model to simulate the transmission of Neisseria gonorrhoeae among GBM in Sydney, accounting for changes in sexual practices, STI testing, and PrEP use. We calibrated and validated the model using reported incidence rates for HIV-positive and HIV-negative GBM from 2010 to 2019. Scenari

The mental health of lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults compared with heterosexual adults: results of two nationally representative English household probability samples.

BACKGROUND: Evidence on inequalities in mental health in lesbian, gay, and bisexual people arises primarily from non-random samples. AIMS: To use a probability sample to study change in mental health inequalities between two survey points, 7 years apart; the contribution of minority stress; and whether associations vary by age, gender, childhood sexual abuse, and religious identification. METHODS: We analysed data from 10 443 people, in two English population-based surveys (2007 and 2014), on common mental disorder (CMD), hazardous alcohol use, and illicit drug use. Multivariable models were

Psychiatric, Substance Use, and Structural Disparities Between Gay and Bisexual Men with Histories of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Recent Sexual Risk Behavior.

Sexual minority men disproportionately experience childhood sexual abuse (CSA) compared to heterosexual men, resulting in greater risk of psychiatric and substance use diagnoses, sexual risk taking, and HIV acquisition later in life. However, little is known about psychiatric and substance use disparities between gay and bisexual men who have experienced CSA. We recruited a purposive convenience sample in Boston and Miami, involving self-report and clinical interview data from 290 sexual minority men (M age = 38.0 years) who reported CSA, defined as unwanted sexual contact before 13 years of a

Social support and HIV prevention behaviors among urban HIV-negative gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.

OBJECTIVE: Supportive social relationships can have direct positive effects on health and mitigate the negative impact of stressors. This study investigated the main effect of perceived social support on STI/HIV risk and prevention behaviors. The buffering effect of perceived social support on the impact of proximal minority stressors, like internalized homonegativity, was also examined on one risk behavior specifically, condomless anal sex (CAS) without HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use. METHOD: HIV-negative gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) were recruited using r

An update on the performance of STI services for gay and bisexual men across European cities: results from the 2017 European MSM Internet Survey.

OBJECTIVES: Rectal STIs compromise health and are common in men who have sex with men (MSM). However, the European-MSM-Internet-Survey (EMIS-2010) showed that in 2010, the prevalence of anal swabbing during STI screening by MSM varied widely across 40 European cities. In this paper, we replicate a variety of measures of STI testing performance using 2017-18 data and extending the geographic spread of the analysis. METHODS: Data were analysed from the EMIS-2017, a 33-language online sexual health survey accessible from 18 October 2017 to 31 January 2018. We focus on a subsample of 38 439 respo

Perceptions of PrEP Use Within Primary Relationships Among Young Black Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men.

A significant proportion of new HIV infections among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) occur within primary relationships. Although PrEP use continues to increase, there is a need to better understand the factors that contribute to PrEP decision-making within primary relationships. We qualitatively examined how relationship context influences perceptions of PrEP and decisions to initiate and discontinue PrEP among young Black MSM to provide a nuanced understanding of PrEP use within relationships. Between late 2017 and mid-2018, we conducted 10 focus groups with young Bl

Awareness and Acceptability of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in Kenya.

Kenyan gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) are significantly affected by HIV. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective biomedical approach to HIV prevention. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 459 HIV-negative Kenyan GBMSM to assess individual and interpersonal correlates of PrEP awareness/acceptability using univariate and hierarchical logistic regression modeling. We found that 64.3% of participants had heard of PrEP and 44.9% were willing to use PrEP. In hierarchical logistic regression models for PrEP awareness, condom use with regular partners, higher c
