Retrospective evaluation of perioperative and short term clinical outcomes in appendicular long bone skeleton fractures repaired via the string of pearls (SOP) locking plate system.

BACKGROUND: Internal plate fixation and, more recently, locking plate fixation are commonly used in the repair of fractures in small animal surgery. This retrospective study reviewed the use of the String of Pearls locking plate system in the fixation/repair of appendicular long bone skeleton fractures in 31 small animal veterinary patients (33 fractures). RESULTS: Major complications necessitating revision surgery occurred in 7/33 (21%), with implant failure as the inciting cause in all cases. Variables corresponding to an unsuccessful outcome were evaluated, and a correlation was found with

Enhanced construct stability with a locking plate system integrated into 3D-printed titanium implants for bone defect reconstruction: a biomechanical comparison of locking versus nonlocking screw fixation.

BACKGROUND: Fixation stability is critical for successful osseointegration of 3D-printed implants in segmental bone defect reconstruction. Although locking plate systems offer theoretical advantages over nonlocking systems, particularly in osteoporotic or high-load-bearing bones, their application in 3D-printed implants remains limited owing to manufacturing challenges. We aimed to evaluate the mechanical performance of locking versus nonlocking fixation in 3D-printed titanium implants. We hypothesized that locking fixation provides superior construct stability and fatigue resistance. METHODS

Comparative Outcomes of Percutaneous K-Wires Versus Plate Fixation in the Treatment of Distal Radius Fractures: A Focus on Stability in Osteoporotic Patients and Both-Bone Distal End Fractures.

Background Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are commonly treated with percutaneous K-wire or plate fixation. The relative efficacy and stability of these methods, particularly in osteoporotic patients and in cases involving both distal radius and ulna fractures, remain subjects of clinical debate. Objective This study aims to compare the outcomes of percutaneous K-wire fixation versus plate fixation in patients with distal end radius fractures, focusing on postoperative stability in osteoporotic conditions and both-bone distal end fractures. Methods A total of 50 patients were retrospectively an

Management of Infected Gap Non-union of Distal Femur with Induced Membrane Technique using Limb Reconstruction System Followed by Augmentation Plating and Bone Grafting: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Distal femur fractures are high-velocity injuries which accounts for 7-10% of all femoral fractures of which 5-10% are open fractures. Despite advances in techniques and implants, treatment remains a challenge, in many situations due to increased risk of infection, non-union and loss of range of motion. Surgical management of such complex injury includes radical debridement with stabilization followed by management of gap non-union with appropriate techniques and restores the range of motion. CASE REPORT: We present a case of 20-year-old man who had suffered multiple orthopedic

Eleven-Year Follow-Up of Two Cohorts of Patients Comparing Stand-Alone Porous Tantalum Cage Versus Autologous Bone Graft and Plating in Anterior Cervical Fusions.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with a porous tantalum cage is an accepted method to treat degenerated cervical discs, with good results, similar to those with autologous bone graft and plating at short- and mid-term follow-up. However, to date, long-term follow-up studies have been performed. METHODS: We performed a retrospective, single-center study to evaluate the outcomes of 2 cohorts from a previous prospective randomized controlled trial comparing stand-alone tantalum cage (group 1, 27 patients) with autologous bone graft and plating (group 2, 30 patients) for single

Continuous intra-sinus bone regeneration after nongrafted sinus lift with a PLLA mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Sinus lift is a bone augmentation procedure that improves the alveolar crest height in an atrophic posterior maxilla. However, the regenerated bone volume can vary and generally has a tendency to decrease after sinus operation. This article describes nongrafted maxillary sinus lift using a bioresorbable unsintered hydroxyapatite combined with poly L-lactide (HA/PLLA) mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla, after which continuous bone gain was observed around the implant apex during a postoperative follow-up period of 3 years. The oblique high tibial osteotomy technique without bone removal and with rigid blade plate fixation for the treatment of medial osteoarthritis of the varus knee: medium and long-term results.

Several high tibial osteotomy (HTO) surgical techniques for the treatment of medial osteoarthritis of the varus knee have been reported. Their main objectives are the achievement of the precise correction that is necessary for the lower limb mechanical axis realignment and the alleviation of the medial joint space. Early or late recurrence of the varus deformity must be avoided and various methods of fixation have been proposed to obtain this. We present a method of single level oblique HTO with no bone removal and with blade plate fixation for the treatment of medial osteoarthritis of the kne

Transversal Double-Level Mandibular Distraction by Basal Bone Hinge Anchorage and Dentoalveolar Acrylic Plate for a Curved Distraction: Evolution of the Technique in a Double-Jaw Distraction Case Report.

Transverse mandibular deficit is characterized by dental crowding, retroalveolism, and vertical dystopia of the anterior alveolar process. Traditional treatments can cause periodontal, occlusion, and esthetic complications. Distraction osteogenesis represents a technique for enlarging bone segments and promoting the formation of regenerated bone that, after maturation, may show characteristics comparable to native bone, as reported in the literature. The study presents an evolution of a previously described technique, in which dentoalveolar distraction is achieved in a curvilinear shape that m

3D printed sodium alginate/gelatin/tannic acid/calcium chloride scaffolds laden bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to repair defective thyroid cartilage plate.

Due to the absence of blood vessels, cartilage exhibits extremely limited self-repair capacity. Currently, repairing laryngeal cartilage defects, resulting from conditions such as laryngeal tumors, injury, and congenital structural abnormalities, remains a significant challenge in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Previous research has often focused on enhancing the mechanical properties of synthetic materials. However, their low biological activity and weak cell adhesion necessitate compensatory measures. This study aims to capitalize on the advantages of natural materi
