We investigated the acute effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on pulmonary haemodynamics and tissue oxygenation in eight men with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) by means of right heart catheterization. Cardiac dysfunction with pulmonary edema following scorpion envenomation (SE) has been documented only in a few isolated case reports. We conducted a systematic hemodynamic study in five consecutive patients (mean age, 21.6 +/- 8 years) presenting with pulmonary edema occurring a few hours (9.6 +/- 5.2 hours) after SE. The hemodynamic effects and duration of action of 4 mg of intravenous molsidomine (M), a new peripheral vasodilator antianginal agent, were evaluated and compared to those of 10 mg sublingual isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) in 12 patients with uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Both M and ISDN produced marked decreases in mean right atrial pressure (RAP), mean pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (WP), and mean pulmonary arterial pressure. The maximal decreases in RAP (-56%) and WP (-35%) with intravenous M intended to be more pronounced than with sublingual ISDN (RAP-35% and WP-29%).

AIMS: Sulfatide is a chaperone for insulin manufacturing in beta cells. Here we explore whether the blood glucose values normally could be associated with this sphingolipid and especially two of its building enzymes CERS2 and CERS6. Anthrax infection is caused byBacillus anthracis, a bacterium that once established within the host releases lethal toxin (LeTx). Anthrax LeTx is internalized by the capillary morphogenesis protein 2/anthrax toxin receptor 2 (CMG2/ANTXR2) cell surface receptor on mammalian cells. Once inside the cell, LeTx cleaves mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), ultimately leading to cell death. Previous reports have shown that decreased expression of ANTXR2 reduces cell susceptibility to LeTx. By ablating the ANTXR2 gene in cells in vitro, we observed complete resistance to LeTx-induced cell death.

We aimed to develop a large animal model of subcoronary aortic stenosis (AS) to study intracoronary and microcirculatory hemodynamics.
