A defect in the pupil shape ofrosecomb bantam chickens was noticed by a breeder. The pupil in affected birds appeared to be elongated at the lower margin and consistent with a coloboma of the iris. Upon examination of all birds in the flock, the defect was found in 26% of females and 9% of males. Examination of breeders older than 1 yr led to the discovery ofcolobomas, although there were not enough birds to accurately determine the prevalence of the problem for previous generations. Chicken bones in the uterus - an exceptional reason for sterility.Because of a substantial increase in the migration from developing countries to Europe, gynaecologists have to face more the fact, that they are confronted more frequently both with medical and social problems from these regions. WE present the following case: In 1999 a Congolese women was referred to our clinic because of sterility of unknown reason. The hysteroscopy followed by D & C showed chicken bones in the uterus. It can be assumed, that a clandestine abortion performed in her native land is the reason for this finding.

A minimally invasive model using a manual abrader to induce adhesions in the chicken's central digit is described. The flexor synovial sheath and the profundus tendon were abraded with access through small flaps at the level of the proximal and distal phalanges of the avian long toes. Aspiration of foreign bodies is more common in children than adults. The clinical and radiological findings between these two age groups are different. It is a clinical diagnosis often overlooked in adults. We hereby present an elderly male patient who was referred to us due to a one year history of hemoptysis. In this report, we describe lymphoid nodules consistently found in the distal region of each chicken caecum at approximately 3 cm from the ileo-cecal junction. Primary aortocolic fistulas are a rare but lethal complication of aortic or iliac aneurysms. A case of fistula between a nonaneurysmal aortic bifurcation and sigmoid colon caused by an ingested chicken bone is presented. This cause of rectal bleeding, which has never been described, might have been suspected after careful examination of abdominal x-ray films. Surgical management included removal of the foreign body and primary repair of the colonic and aortic rent and appeared to be adequate.

Second episodes of varicella after a definite primary exposure to chicken-pox are well known in immunosuppressed children. We report an outbreak in adult cancer patients. This observation suggests that there is also a higher risk of varicella infection in immunosuppressed adults. As there is a trend for a pronounced severity of chicken-pox in patients receiving anticancer drugs or suffering from immunosuppressive diseases, the prophylactic use of varicella zoster immune globulin in adult patients has to be discussed, especially as positive experiences with children were recently gained.
