INTRODUCTION: In Cuba, as well as in other countries, Pediculus capitis infestation has increased since the 70's; this is the reason why a program aimed at controlling and preventing this infestation was designed. This program includes quality control studies of the active synthetic pyrethroid Permethrin and its activity at 1% on lice and 5% on scabies. Due to its low toxicity and positive risk/benefit ratio, Permethrin is a pediculicide of choice to decrease Pediculus capitis infestation.

Abnormal savda is a special symptom in Uigur medicine. The understanding of its metabolic origins is of great importance for the subsequent treatment. Here, a metabonomic study of this symptom was carried out using LC-MS based human serum metabolic profiling. Orthogonal signal correction partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OSC-PLS-DA) was used for the classification and prediction of abnormal savda. Cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) (CDMPC) was synthesized and coated on aminopropylsilica to prepare a chiral stationary phase (CSP). Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) of protein on large pore silica (20-30 nm) n-alkyl-bonded(C4 and C5) phase columns was studied using a trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)/2-propanol mobile phase system. The influence of concentration of organic modifier (2-propanol) and ion-pairing acid (TFA) on the protein retention time was examined. The results showed that the plot of the retention time vs-2-propanol concentration in mobile phase was U-shaped. The mechanism of protein in reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography is also discussed.

Chromatographic purity tests of four phenothiazine derivatives chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, promethazine and trifluoperazine have been developed. The adsorptive and partition methods are suitable to the separation of the above substances and intermediates as well as side products of their productions. The most common impurities of final products were detected by qualitative purity tests. Densitometric quantitative determinations were carried out on silicagel layer using the solvent system cyclohexanebenzene-diethylamine. Quantity of intermediate impurities were 0.15-0.96%.

A high performance liquid-chromatographic procedure is reported for measuring the plasma concentration of 5 anticonvulsants: phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, ethosuximide, valproic acid and 2 bronchodilators: theophylline and caffeine. Limits of detection of ethosuximide and valproic acid are 28 mumol/l, 5 mumol/l for the other drugs. Linearity limits are always very upper than the higher therapeutic dose concentration, the inter assay relative standard deviation are less than 8 p. cent for the 7 drugs at the 3 levels of concentration and the analytical recoveries ranged from 93 to 104

The results of further development of methods for chromatographic concentration and purification of tick-borne encephalitis virus on columns with porous glass using formalin-inactivated virus suspensions are presented. Serum theophylline concentration was measured in children both during treatment of status asthmaticus with intravenous aminophylline, and as outpatients while they were taking oral theophylline compounds for long-term management of asthma.
