[Stored electrograms in pacemakers and ICDs].

Stored electrograms (EGMs) represent an important development in pacemaker and ICD therapy. The most important issue in pacemaker EGMs is the confirmation of the detection of atrial tachyarrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation. In ICD therapy, the discrimination between ventricular and supraventricular tachycardia (i.e., detection of inadequate therapy) is of central interest. Unfortunately, systematic"instructions" for interpreting stored EGMs in systems by different manufacturers are not available and the knowledge on this topic is limited to (too) few experts. The contributions in this

Automatic respiratory and bulk patient motion corrected (ACROBATIC) free-running whole-heart five-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging.

PURPOSE: Free-running five-dimensional (5D) whole-heart magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) simplifies image acquisition by eliminating the need for external gating, breath-holding, and prospective scan planning. However, it remains vulnerable to patient movement in pediatric populations, which may require sedation or general anesthesia. We present a retrospective motion correction approach using the automatic respiratory and bulk patient motion correction (ACROBATIC) framework to detect, estimate, and correct for bulk motion, thereby improving image quality in pediatric cardiac MRI. METHODS: Fr

Diffusion Tensor Imaging Profiles Can Distinguish Diffusivity and Neural Properties of White Matter Injury in Hydrocephalus vs. Non-hydrocephalus Using a Strategy of a Periodic Table of DTI Elements.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to create a simplistic taxonomy to improve transparency and consistency in, and reduce complexity of, interpreting diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) profiles in white matter disruption. Using a novel strategy of a periodic table of DTI elements, we examined if DTI profiles could demonstrate neural properties of disruption sufficient to characterize white matter changes specific for hydrocephalus vs. non-hydrocephalus, and to distinguish between cohorts of neural injury by their differing potential for reversibility. METHODS: DTI datasets from three clinical

Discrimination of multichannel-compressed speech in noise: long-term learning in hearing-impaired subjects.

OBJECTIVE: It takes time for an individual to obtain optimal benefit from a new hearing aid. This research examines the possibility that similar long-term learning can be seen in consecutive laboratory studies of multichannel compression (MCC). DESIGN: Three studies of different parameters of MCC processing, carried out over the period of 1 yr, included the same 15 hearing-impaired subjects and one identical MCC-processing condition. The full-range MCC had 8, 12, or 16 independent frequency channels, using a Robinson-Huntington compression algorithm. The City University of New York nonsense s

Transient Spectroscopic Imaging Promotes Interface-Passivated Photodetector for High Performance.

Optimizing semiconductor charge-carrier dynamics is pivotal for boosting device performance, yet the lack of spatiotemporal-resolved characterization methods forces iterative device fabrication to realize such optimization. Here, we develop transient spectroscopic imaging (TSI) techniques, combining local transient photoluminescence and transient absorption microscopy, to directly visualize intra- and intergrain carrier dynamics and guide the micronano-scale interface optimization of devices. Using TSI, we study 4-fluorobenzoyl amide (FBA)-passivated two-dimensional (2D) BA2PbI4 perovskite fil

FS-YOLO: A Lightweight Insulator Defect Detection Method Based on Multi-Level Feature Fusion and Localization Quality Estimation.

To address the challenges of low localization accuracy for insulator defects in complex inspection scenarios and excessive model redundancy that hinders edge deployment, this paper proposes FS-YOLO, a lightweight defect detection algorithm. First, a C3k2 ConvFormer Gated Linear Unit (C3k2-CFGLU) module replaces the original backbone, using depthwise separable convolution and gated linear units to enhance defect feature representation while reducing computation. Second, a Multi-Branch Multi-Scale Feature Pyramid Network (MBMSFPN) neck improves defect target perception via multi branch auxiliary

ESR Essentials: trauma team and the role of Interventional Radiology-practice recommendations by the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe.

Trauma-related hemorrhage remains a leading cause of preventable death, requiring rapid diagnosis and timely intervention. Interventional Radiology (IR) plays a central role in the management of non-compressible bleeding, especially in solid organ injuries and pelvic trauma. This article outlines three key recommendations for integrating IR into trauma care. First, IR must be embedded in trauma teams with 24/7 availability at Level I trauma centers and structured access at Level II and III centers. Second, whole-body contrast-enhanced CT should be performed in hemodynamically stable or initial

Semi-Quantitative Detection of Borax Adulteration in Wheat Flour Based on Microwave Non-Destructive Testing and Machine Learning.

The adulteration of wheat flour with borax poses a serious food safety risk, yet conventional rapid non-destructive screening methods remain limited. This study developed a machine learning-based microwave non-destructive semi-quantitative detection method for identifying borax adulteration in wheat flour. Using a proprietary microwave detection system, which acquires broadband frequency-domain amplitude attenuation and phase shift responses in the 2.5-11.5 GHz band, amplitude attenuation spectra and dimensional phase offset spectra were obtained from 155 samples prepared at three adulteration

Predicting Cell Differentiation in Mechanically Stimulated Biphasic Osteochondral Scaffolds Using Fluid-Structure Interaction Modelling.

Osteochondral defects, involving both articular cartilage and subchondral bone, can lead to joint degeneration and osteoarthritis. Recent advances in 3D-printed biphasic scaffolds offer promising opportunities to recreate physiological microenvironments for tissue regeneration. In tissue engineering, these scaffolds can be mechanically stimulated to promote targeted cartilage and bone formation. While computational models have been widely used to study mechanically induced cellular responses in monophasic scaffolds, time-dependent modelling of biphasic osteochondral systems remains relatively

Gradient Porous Flexible Pressure Sensors with the Relay Effect for High-Accuracy Braille-to-Speech Recognition.

The development of highly sensitive, wide linear-range flexible pressure sensors is crucial for practical applications in human-computer interaction, physiological signal detection, and motion monitoring. However, traditional flexible pressure sensors often suffer from limited compressibility in their structural design, resulting in rapid saturation of the detection range and low sensitivity, which hinder their commercial viability. In this study, we propose a straightforward electrospinning method to fabricate a thermoplastic polyurethane/carboxyl-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube/po

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. The lack of effective prevention or cure makes AD a significant concern, as it is a progressive disease with symptoms that worsen over time. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to develop an algorithm capable of differentiating between patients with early-stage AD (mild cognitive impairment [MCI]), moderate AD, and healthy controls (C) using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. METHODS: A publicly available EEG database was utilized, with seven EEG recordings selected from each study group (MCI, AD, and C) to ensure a b

Surgical approaches for thoracic outlet decompression in the treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome.

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a controversial and uncommon syndrome. Three different diagnoses can be made based on the compressed structure: arterial TOS, venous TOS, and neurogenic TOS. Diagnosing TOS, especially neurogenic TOS, remains difficult since a single diagnostic tool does not exist. Although this resulted in a lot of confusion, standardization of care and outcome improved daily care practice measures in the last decade. Current treatment algorithms consist of both conservative and surgical treatment approaches, which should be chosen depending on the type of TOS and extend of t
