A 42-year-old white man presented with a lower eyelid lesion and recurrent condylomata acuminata of his genitalia due to human papillomavirus (HPV) type 6a. A total of one hundred patients (75 males and 25 females) age ranged from 17-65 years with genital lesions attending the STD clinic of Bowring and LC Hospitals Bangalore constituted the study group. Based on clinical features, the study groups were classified as syphilis (39), chancroid (30), herpes genitalis (13), condylomato lato (9), LGV (7t condylomata acuminata (5), genital scabies (3), granuloma inguinole (2) and genital candidiasis (1). In 68% microbiological findings confirmed the clinical diagnosis. Of the 100 cases 13% and 2% were positive for HIV antibodies and HbsAg respectively.

Various types of human papillomas (warts) can be differentiated according to clinical parameters: Verrucae vulgares, plantares, planae and seborrheicae, in addition genital warts (Condylomata acuminata) and laryngeal papillomas. We have used molecular hybridization to examine the distribution of H.P.V. 6 or II and H.P.V. 16 in benign, premalignant and malignant genital lesions from 344 patients. To date four laser wavelengths are commercially available which have urologic applications. The experience with all of these lasers is reviewed. There is presented our experience in surgical hemorrhoids and condylomata acuminata treatment using CO2 laser. There were 289 operations on 198 patients in outpatient clinic. There were 4 cases of anal fissure and no postoperative bleeding during postoperative period. The development of bowenoid papules in a 20-year-old man and a carcinoma in situ of the portio uteri of the 22-year-old female sexual partner is reported. Human genital tumors as well as recurrent laryngeal papillomas were analyzed for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) 6 and HPV 11 sequences. HPV 11 DNA was found in 7 of 14 laryngeal papillomas; in the 7 other tumors no HPV DNA was demonstrated. HPV 11 DNA was also found in all five atypical condylomata of the cervix included in this study. Condylomata acuminata mainly contained HPV 6 DNA.
