The new N-confused porphyrin (NCP) derivatives, meso-unsubstituted beta-alkyl-3-oxo N-confused porphyrin (3-oxo-NCP) and related macrocycles, were synthesized from appropriate pyrrolic precursors by a [3+1]-type condensation reaction. 3-Oxo-NCP forms a self-assembled dimer in dichloromethane that is stabilized by complementary hydrogen-bonding interactions arising from the peripheral amide-like moieties. BACKGROUND: Most cystic pancreatic neoplasms are currently evaluated by an endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). In the authors' experience, FNAB of cystic pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) frequently causes diagnostic difficulties, partly because of unexpected overlapping features with cystic ductal adenocarcinomas.
METHODS: The authors identified 5 histologically confirmed cystic PETs that were evaluated by FNAB and compared their cytomorphologic features to cystic ductal adenocarcinomas (n = 5) and solid PETs (n = 39) of the pancreas.

Hemolysis is observed in more than 50% of patients with cirrhosis. However, there has been little documentation of the association of primary biliary cirrhosis with autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Two cases, found within a single practice, of primary biliary cirrhosis coexisting with autoimmune hemolysis and a third case coexisting with hereditary spherocytosis are presented. The quadratus lumborum muscle has been noted to appear as a hypoechoic structure on sonograms of the abdomen. On occasion its appearance may simulate a pathologic fluid collection such as an abscess or retroperitoneal hematoma. A 57-year-old woman with a history of polytrauma due to a car accident in March 2023 presented to de Emergency Room one month after this episode with subocclusive symptoms. In parallel to the 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours (WHO 2022), an alternative International Consensus Classification (ICC) has been proposed.
