The aim of this study was to assess bone healing and secondary fracture displacement after corrective osteotomy of the distal radius without any cortical contact using palmar locking plates without bone grafting. Between 2009 and 2021, 11 palmar corrective osteotomies of extra-articular malunited distal radius fractures and palmar plate fixations without the use of bone grafts and without cortical contact, were assessed. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between mandibular cortex parameters and fracture in a group of 286 men and women, 79-80 years of age.
STUDY DESIGN: In a cross-sectional study, the mandibular cortex was evaluated with Klemetti's index for cortical erosion. The cortical thickness was measured with a ruler adjusting for the magnification factor. The odds ratio (OR) for fracture when having a severely eroded cortex or a cortex thickness < 3 mm was calculated.

We evaluated the beneficial effect of treatment with bone marrow mononuclear cells(BMMC) in a rat model of focal ischemia induced by thermocoagulation of the blood vessels in the left sensorimotor cortex. BMMC were obtained from donor rats and injected into the femoral vein one day after ischemia. BMMC-treated animals received approx. 3×10⁷ cells and control animals received PBS. From 1998 to 1999, the senior author utilized Allofix cortical bone pins for primary fixation of 40 first metatarsal distal chevron osteotomies and 30 digital arthrodeses in 42 patients. Radiographs of each patient were evaluated for the presence of graft incorporation, union of the osteotomy or fusion site, and postoperative migration of the osseous segments. Between January 1985 and May 1989, 53 Thoroughbred horses (mean age 3.2 years) were surgically treated for dorsal cortical fractures of the third metacarpal bone (MC III). All horses were treated with cortical drilling through the fracture line (osteostixis). Diagnosis of the fractures was confirmed by xeroradiography. Lifetime racing records were obtained for all horses. Forty-seven horses returned to racing after surgery (89%). The mean time between surgery and the first race was 6.8 months.
