Congenital distichiasis is a rare eyelid anomaly usually running in a family with some systemic disorders. Isolated congenital distichiasis is very rare. A very rare case of sporadic congenital distichiasis with symmetrical four-lid involvement is reported here. Detailed ophthalmic and systemic examinations failed to reveal any other abnormality. Various modalities of surgical techniques are tried to treat this difficult condition. Thermal ablation of tumors is a rapidly growing field that has found various applications in the musculoskeletal system. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has become the reference standard for treatment of most osteoid osteomas. More recently, RFA has been applied to several other forms of primary tumors and in the treatment and palliation of osseous metastases. Cryoablation using new closed systems has also become available for the percutaneous treatment of both primary and metastatic lesions, and the initial results have been promising.

When performing percutaneous cryoablation for renal masses, the standard patient positioning has been the prone position. We present a case in which placing the patient in a modified lateral decubitus position aided in the access of probe placement for percutaneous cryoablation.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects of renal vascular control and intrarenal cooling on the size of renal lesions attainable with a 3.4-mm cryoprobe.
METHODS: Three groups of pigs underwent unilateral laparoscopic renal cryoablation with a 3.4-mm cryoprobe inserted to a depth of 1 cm. An 8-minute double-freeze cycle was used. Between March and November 1985 we treated 89 female patients with condyloma acuminatum of the lower genital tract. All patients were evaluated with colposcopy, urethroscopy and anoscopy. Carbon dioxide laser vaporization was used to treat condylomata in the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus and distal urethra. Urethral involvement by condylomata was found in 31 patients (35 per cent). Eight patients had biopsy proved proximal urethral condylomata (9 per cent). Cryotherapy was used to treat these lesions.
