BACKGROUND: The shortage of donor organs for transplantation remains a worldwide problem. The utilization of suboptimal deceased donors enlarges the pool of potential organs, yet consequently, clinicians face the difficult decision of whether these sub-optimal organs are of sufficient quality for transplantation. Since I moved from the National Cancer Center to Shinshu University, I have been performing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), which is the only way to save the life of patients with end-stage liver disease. BACKGROUND: According to the Helmholtz theory of accommodation the loss of accommodation amplitude is caused by the growing sclerosis of the crystalline lens, whereas the ciliary muscle and the lens capsule are mainly uneffected by age. A permanent treatment method for presbyopia which offers a dynamic accommodation ability is a recent field of study. We evaluated the pregnancies of 427 women who conceived through artificial insemination by donor (AID) at our clinic over a 12-year period. Initial phone contact was followed by a questionnaire. Outcome was known for 594 of the 606 pregnancies, with a total of 502 live-born children including 15 sets of twins.
