A neonate with absent aortic valve associated with membranous mitral atresia and normally related great arteries is reported. The patient was a 3360-g boy and was transferred to our hospital 4 h after birth because of severe cyanosis and respiratory distress. Absent aortic valve associated with mitral atresia was diagnosed on echocardiography. The patient died 4 days later with congestive heart failure. Postmortem examination revealed the aortic valve and sinus of Valsalva to be totally absent. The mitral valve showed membranous atresia. Severe endocardial fibroelastosis of the left ventricle,…

A peculiar non-hypertrophic myocardiopathy is described which occurred in three and possibly five generations of a single family. Clinical features included systolic murmurs, electrocardiographic abnormalities, and sudden cardiac death with a paucity of symptoms of cardiac dysfunction. Pathological studies in three generations showed a striking similarity of cardiac findings including globular and dilated ventricles, endocardial fibroelastosis, and mitral valve thickening. Myocardium in two showed basophilic degeneration and fibrosis. A retrospective genealogic analysis and a prospective clini…

Autoimmune-mediated congenital heart block (CHB) is a severe manifestation of neonatal lupus in which conduction tissues of the fetal heart … irreversible and the most common manifestation of CHB, although other cardiac complications such as endocardial fibroelastosis (EFE), dilated cardiomyopathy, and valvular insufficiency have been observed. In this review, we detail the classification, prevalence, pathogenesis, and clinical management recommendations for autoimmune CHB.

Three children were identified as having anomalous origin of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) from the pulmonary artery (PA). Two had had congestive heart failure in infancy with clinical diagnosis of endocardial fibroelastosis and all had abnormal ECGs. The correct diagnosis was delayed in each case, and two patients required selective coronary angiography. Surgery was accomplished in the three children although ECG abnormalities have persisted and one child has dyskinesis of the left ventricular apex. Because this diagnosis may be difficult to make when intercoronary anasto…

Report on an endocarditis parietalis fibroplastica Löffler in a 54-year-old male. Discussion of the localisation, pathologico-morphologic findings as well as of the differential diagnosis and the therapy.
