Oral Nicotine Pouch Use and Associations with Periodontal Status and Salivary Microbiome Dysbiosis.

OBJECTIVES: Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) are increasing in use, yet data on potential oral health effects are scarce. We evaluated whether ONP use is associated with clinical periodontal measures and salivary microbiome dysbiosis in a field-based regional sample. We recruited firefighters, as this population has historically featured an elevated prevalence of oral tobacco use. METHODS: In this preliminary, cross-sectional study, 26 eligible participants (100% male; ages 26-53 y) were enrolled from fire stations near Sacramento, California (USA), in April-May 2025. Clinical measures from full-

Gestational diabetes-related gut microbiome dysbiosis is not influenced by different Asian ethnicities and dietary interventions: a pilot study.

Gut microbiome dysbiosis contributes to the pathophysiology of both gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and its associated adverse outcomes in the woman and offspring. Even though GDM prevalence, complications, and outcomes vary among different ethnic groups, limited information is available about the influence of ethnicity on gut microbiome dysbiosis in pregnancies complicated by GDM. This pilot prospective cohort study examined the impact of ethnicity on gut dysbiosis in GDM among three Asian ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, Indian) living in Singapore, and investigated the potential modulator

Improvement of the inflammation-damaged intestinal barrier and modulation of the gut microbiota in ulcerative colitis after FMT in the SHIME® model.

BACKGROUND: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) seems to be a promising approach in ulcerative colitis (UC) management with the aim of repopulating a patient's dysbiotic microbiota with beneficial bacteria and restore its metabolic activity to its healthy characteristics. Metabolites present after FMT may improve the function and integrity of the intestinal barrier, reduce inflammation, and thus induce remission in an UC patient. In this study we evaluated whether the Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem (SHIME®) model may be a suitable non-invasive alternative for studying

Association between gut microbiota and autoimmune cholestatic liver disease, a Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have suggested that the gut microbiota (GM) is closely associated with the development of autoimmune cholestatic liver disease (ACLD), but limitations, such as the presence of confounding factors, have resulted in a causal relationship between the gut microbiota and autoimmune cholestatic liver disease that remains uncertain. Thus, we used two-sample Mendelian randomization as a research method to explore the causal relationship between the two. METHODS: Pooled statistics of gut microbiota from a meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies conducted by the Mi

Identification of Salivary Microbiota and Its Association With Host Inflammatory Mediators in Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a microbial-induced chronic inflammatory disease, which may not only result in tooth loss, but can also contribute to the development of various systemic diseases. The transition from healthy to diseased periodontium depends on microbial dysbiosis and impaired host immune response. Although periodontitis is a common disease as well as associated with various systemic inflammatory conditions, the taxonomic profiling of the salivary microbiota in periodontitis and its association with host immune and inflammatory mediators has not been reported. Therefore, the aim of this study
