AIMS: To evaluate retrospectively the clinical characteristics and therapeutic outcomes in eyes with secondary vasoproliferative retinal tumors (VPRT) at a tertiary center in Turkey.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients diagnosed with secondary VPRT between 2005 and 2025 with a follow-up of 6 months or more were included. 24 eyes of 21 patients were evaluated. Their charts and multimodal imaging features were analyzed, and treatments noted.

Histopathologic examination of eight cynomolgus monkey eyes and one human eye revealed that both argon and krypton laser photocoagulation cause adhesion between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) within 24 hours of treatment. Severe corneal ulcerations, causing major keratolysis with large perforation of the cornea or extending to the limbal region, are an ophthalmic emergency. In these cases, a larger corneoscleral graft can be transplanted to restore tectonic integrity, alleviate pain, save vision, and prevent loss of the eye. Of 92 enucleated eyes with scleral inflammation and 114 eyes from 81 patients with scleritis, 45 (49%) and 20 (18%), respectively, showed evidence of increased intraocular pressure. Damage to the trabecular meshwork of iridocyclitis, overlying corneoscleral inflammation, or peripheral anterior synechiae was the most common cause of increased intraocular pressure. Other causes included topical corticosteroid use, angle neovascularization, and posterior scleritis with secondary angle closure.

The present report describes a 79-year-old woman developed eye pain in her right eye after accidental exposure to the hair dye when she dyed her hair. Her visual acuity was no light perception and intraocular ocular pressure was 10 mmHg in her right eye. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed a huge corneal ulcer with the central cornea almost perforated and severe hypopyon in anterior chamber and moderate opacity in vitreous. We studied four patients with posterior brawny scleritis. Two underwent enucleation for suspected melanoma, and in the other two, the correct diagnosis was made and effective therapy begun. A previously healthy 6-year-old boy presented to the ophthalmologist and was found to have congenital ocular melanocytosis associated with uveal melanoma. He was treated with enucleation of the affected eye and has shown no evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis through over 20 years of postenucleation follow-up. A retrospective study was carried out on 118 children with penetrating eye injuries. Fifty-three per cent of those without an intraocular foreign body (50/94) achieved a final visual acuity of 6/12 or better, whilst 13% (14/108) required an enucleation. Mixed corneoscleral wounds, vitreous haemorrhage and retinal detachment were bad prognostic features. Important principles of management are discussed.

Phacoanaphylaxis (lens-induced uveitis) is a potentially curable ocular inflammation secondary to lens truma. Recently we have seen three clinically undiagnosed enucleation specimens in our eye pathology laboratory with this entity. Our observations add an argument to the recent concept that early lens removal in cases of traumatic cataract with lens capsule rupture would ultimately lead to better visual results.
