OBJECTIVES: To study the microbiological and histological findings in patients whose eyes are removed for primary ulcerative keratitis with suppurative endophthalmitis.
METHODS: Survey of consecutive cases of ulcerative keratitis with histologically defined endophthalmitis treated by enucleation or evisceration.

Acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) is a rare macular disease. We aimed to report the fundus multimodal imaging features of AMN with SARSCoV2 infection. Usutu virus (USUV) is a zoonotic neurotropic arbovirus related to the West Nile virus that causes mortality in birds and sporadic neurologic human disease. Current research on natural USUV-associated disease lacks data on ocular involvement. METHODS: A literature review was performed using PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases. Studies were included if published ≥2010, included ≥20 BKPro eyes, and reported the mean follow-up time. METHODS: Records of patients who underwent enucleation or evisceration for infected eyes with placement of solid sphere implants were reviewed. Organisms belonging to Rhodococcus species have been isolated as the causative agent of infections in many animals and humans. The majority of the human infections so far reported have been limited to immunocompromised patients including AIDS patients. We report an elderly woman with a chronic corneal ulcer infected with Rhodococcus. To our knowledge there is no previous report on a Rhodococcus infection of the eye. Rarity of this type of infection by Rhodococcus in a locally immunocompromised site in an otherwise healthy individual prompted this case history.

Animal models are an inimitable method to study the systemic pathogenesis of virus-induced disease. Extra-respiratory complications of influenza A virus infections are not extensively studied even though they are often associated with severe disease and mortality. Here we review and recommend mammalian animal models that can be used to study extra-respiratory complications of the central nervous system and cardiovascular system as well as involvement of the eye, placenta, fetus, lacteal gland, liver, pancreas, intestinal tract, and lymphoid tissues during influenza A virus infections.
