Clinical features and current management experience in Gorham-Stout disease: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) is a rare complex lymphatic malformation. Since its initial description in 1838, only approximately 400 patients have been documented. There is currently no consensus on the diagnostic criteria or treatment options for GSD. The objective of this study was to review the clinical characteristics of patients with GSD and determine the current diagnostic and treatment models. METHODS: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted to identify all relevant literature on GSD published over the decade

Targeting B Cells for the Treatment of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a group of heterogeneous diseases that can affect multiple systems. Currently, it is classified into different subtypes based on myositis-specific antibodies and muscle tissue pathology. These subtypes vary in treatment response and clinical prognosis, with poor treatment outcomes observed in cases of rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease and severe muscle involvement. Despite conventional treatments, there remains a high rate of mortality and disability. The production of B cells and autoantibodies plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of I

Soluble programmed death-ligand 1 (sPDL1) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) predicts survival in advanced biliary tract cancer patients treated with palliative chemotherapy.

Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in tumor tissue is under investigation as a candidate biomarker in immuno-oncology dug development. The soluble form of PD-L1 (sPDL1) is suggested to have immunosuppressive activity. In this study, we measured the serum level of sPDL1 and evaluated its prognostic implication in biliary tract cancer (BTC). Blood was collected from 158 advanced BTC patients (68 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, 56 gallbladder cancer, 22 extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and 12 ampulla of vater cancer) before initiation of palliative chemotherapy. Serum sPDL1 was measured

Unraveled role of TLR7-mediated interferon signaling activation in COVID-19.

Emerging evidence underscores the critical role of Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7)-mediated interferon (IFN) signaling in host defense against viral infections including SARS-CoV-2, through the modulation of both innate and adaptive immunity. However, the specific mechanisms by which TLR7 activation shapes SARS-CoV-2-specific immune responses, particularly via IRF-IFN pathways, remain incompletely elucidated. This review synthesizes current findings on how intrinsic TLR7-driven IFN signaling influences viral clearance, modulates adaptive immunity, and contributes to autoantibody production in COVI

Targeting BRD4: Potential therapeutic strategy for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (Review).

As a member of BET (bromodomain and extra-terminal) protein family, BRD4 (bromodomain‑containing protein 4) is a chromatin‑associated protein that interacts with acetylated histones and actively recruits regulatory proteins, leading to the modulation of gene expression and chromatin remodeling. The cellular and epigenetic functions of BRD4 implicate normal development, fibrosis and inflammation. BRD4 has been suggested as a potential therapeutic target as it is often overexpressed and plays a critical role in regulating gene expression programs that drive tumor cell proliferation, survival, mi

Arsenic trioxide and triptolide synergistically induce apoptosis in the SKM‑1 human myelodysplastic syndrome cell line.

Although certain combination therapies comprising arsenic trioxide (As2O3) with other agents exist for the treatment of several types of human cancer, few As2O3 combination therapies are clinically effective for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Triptolide (TL) may be an effective therapeutic agent for the treatment of MDS. However, to date, there is no combination therapy for MDS with As2O3 and TL. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate this combination therapy on the apoptosis of MDS SKM‑1 cells. The MDS SKM‑1 cells were treated with As2O3, TL or the two in combination at

The Immune Regulatory Role of Adenosine in the Tumor Microenvironment.

Adenosine, an immunosuppressive metabolite, is produced by adenosine triphosphate (ATP) released from dying or stressed cells and is found at high levels in the tumor microenvironment of most solid tumors. It mediates pro-tumor activities by inducing tumor cell proliferation, migration or invasion, tumor tissue angiogenesis, and chemoresistance. In addition, adenosine plays an important role in regulating anti-tumor immune responses and facilitating tumor immune escape. Adenosine receptors are broadly expressed by tumor-infiltrated immune cells, including suppressive tumor-associated macrophag

Epidemiology of Tumor-Induced Osteomalacia in Germany Based on Real World Data.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is an ultra-rare disease caused mostly by benign tumors that secrete fibroblast growth factor-23. Because of nonspecific symptoms, the diagnostic delay is long, and therapy can be challenging. Moreover, epidemiological data on TIO are scarce owing to its rarity. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify TIO's incidence rates and prevalence in Germany. Retrospective longitudinal and cross-sectional analyses were conducted using anonymized German claims data from the statutory health insurance (SHI) database. This database, which comprises the data of approximately
