Under observation there were 59 patients ranging in age from 4 to 14 years with posttraumatic ossifications in the elbow joint areas. All the patients were given conservative treatment, 23 patients needed operative interventions on the elbow joint. Long-term results were studied at the period from 6 months to 8 years. Good and satisfactory functional results were noted in 96.8% of the patients after the conservative treatment. After the operative treatment good and satisfactory functional and anatomical results were obtained in 90% of the patients.

We retrospectively reviewed 16 children younger than 13 years with 17 fractures of the shafts of the radius or ulna or both who had undergon … rovascular injuries. The average follow-up was 12.3 months; all 17 fractures had excellent results (forearm rotation loss of < 10 degrees). Our study indicates that excellent results can be expected with no increased risk of complications if the treating physician elects to proceed with an ORIF in a pediatric forearm fracture with proper indications.

The radial forearm flap is a thin, pliable, and well-vascularized fasciocutaneous flap. The forearm flap is, in selected cases, along with the pediculated regional and distant musculocutaneous flaps, a versatile method for pharyngeal reconstruction. We describe the use of the flap in nine clinical cases of hypopharyngeal stenosis and fistulas. The advantages of this method for hypopharyngeal reconstruction are presented.

The general principles of treatment of injuries of the flexor and extensor tendons in the hand and distal forearm are mentioned. For the extensor tendons the different types of treatment performed for injuries in the different areas, the finger, the back of the hand, and the wrist, are briefly discussed. Knowledge recently acquired from experimental and clinical studies, especially that of the anatomy, the blood supply, the nutrient pathways, and the healing of the flexor tendons, is discussed, and its applications in our daily clinical work are shown.

The free forearm flap is ideal for vascularized tissue transfer because of its large vessels and multiple nerve supply. In the case presented a distally based forearm flap on a long vascular pedicle was employed relying on a reversed blood flow. Unfortunately the reversed venous flow did not develop and therefore in order to provide a venous drainage an autologous vein graft was used.

Thirty-four cases of severe trauma to the proximal ends of both bones of the forearm have been seen. All were treated surgically. A classification is proposed related to the site of the ulnar fracture. A right-handed 4 1/2-year old boy had a sharp amputation 3 cm proximal to his left wrist joint in a hay-cutting machine accident.
