We describe a patient with coexistent dermatomyositis and bullous pemphigoid; both appeared within a few weeks. Protein blotting showed binding of the patient's serum to the classic 220 kd bullous pemphigoid antigen. Because of the close temporal association of the two disorders, we believe that they are almost certainly etiologically linked. One possibility is that exposure of basement membrane antigens by dermatomyositis led to exposure of bullous pemphigoid antigen and subsequent antibody formation.

BACKGROUND: Granuloma annulare is a common skin condition usually presenting as annular plaques composed of intradermal papules. Variants such as disseminated, subcutaneous, and perforating have been described. In this article, the clinical and histologic features of a distinct papular umbilicated form of granuloma annulare are described.
OBSERVATIONS: Four boys aged 5 to 9 years presented with papular, umbilicated, flesh-colored papules limited to the dorsa of the hands and fingers. Histologically there were unusually distributed but typical features of granuloma annulare, including well-dem

Keloid formation on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet is rare. A keloid developed 2 months after release of simple syndactyly in a young black child. The process of keloid formation is not completely understood, and surgical correction is not effective.

The authors have collected 6 cases (one personal case and 5 cases from the literature) of hyperkeratosis punctata of the palmar creases, an affection which seems to be a new type of keratosis punctata. It is characterized by the development of small horny plugs in small cup-like depressions which are electively and exclusively found in the palmar flexion creases of the fingers. Histological examination shows a plug-like hyperkeratosis penetrating, more or less deeply, the depressed, funnel-like Malpighi's mucous layer which sometimes consists of one layer of cells. This affection might be comp

Atypical pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) and Sweet syndrome are neutrophilic dermatoses that share some common features. Sterile chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis is a rare association of these neutrophilic dermatoses that has only been reported in children. We report a 3-year-old girl who initially presented with pain in her left hand and right leg. Roentgenograms and bone scan revealed findings of multifocal osteomyelitis affecting both femurs, the right tibia, left clavicle, right eighth costochondral junction, and left ulna. She was treated with antibiotics without improvement. Bone bio

BACKGROUND: Discoid lupus erythematosus is a particular form of systemic lupus in which manifestations are confined to the skin.
AIM: Our purpose was to evaluate the epidemiology trends, presenting clinical manifestations, therapeutic features and outcome of patients with discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE).
METHODS: It's a retrospective study, done in the dermatology department of Habib Thameur Hospital over an 8 years period. We included only the cases of DLE confirmed by the histology and/or the direct immunofluorescence.
RESULTS: We identified 26 patients mean aged 46.19 years. All of the

The immunomodulatory actions of cimetidine, an H2-receptor antagonist, and its use in the treatment of viral warts has been described previously but its effectiveness is still debated. We report the results in 47 patients with multiple, nongenital viral warts who were treated with oral cimetidine in a 3-month open-label study. The drug was generally well tolerated and 87% of children and 68% of adults improved with treatment. Follow-up data in 65% of the patients showed that there had been no recurrence in the majority of those whose warts had cleared completely during treatment, whereas warts

Cutaneous alterations are common in neonates and usually occur in the first few days of life. Most of these are transient and benign, appearing as physiological responses to birth. Skin pigmentation disorders are considered transitory dermatoses of newborn infants. Nail pigmentation manifests as asymptomatic brown to bluish-black skin pigmentation over the fingers and toes in newborns. Hyperpigmentation of the distal phalanx of both hands and feet is commonly found in dark-skinned newborns, but it is rare in fair-skinned newborns and East Asian populations. We herein describe a Chinese infant

Erythema elevatum diutinum (EED) is a rare disease presenting with persistent red to yellow-brown papules or plaques which are mainly localized symmetrically on the extensor aspects of the hands and fingers, the elbows and the knees. The histology shows a leucocytoclastic vasculitis in early lesions and fibrosis of the dermis later on. Dapsone is the treatment of choice. Today, EED is usually assigned to the neutrophilic dermatoses in which an association with hematological disturbances is well documented. We report on a patient with EED and glioma WHO grade IV, a coincidence unreported hither
