The presentations and discussions summarised provide an overview on the current state of knowledge on a wide range of occupational health risks to which seafarers are exposed. The definition of an occupational risk for a seafarer poses problems as their ship provides both their working and their living environment and, because of its mobility, can expose them to diverse climatic and infectious risks. Knowledge about levels of exposure to potential health risks in seafarers is limited when compared to those working ashore while, because of a pattern of working that is often temporary and insecu

BACKGROUND: Patient/resident-handling tasks are physically demanding and associated with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among nursing personnel. The routine performance of such tasks by physical therapists and occupational therapists during treatment can cause similar problems.
OBJECTIVE: This study characterized the magnitude of MSDs and the risk factors for MSDs in physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants, and occupational therapist assistants (collectively called "therapy personnel" for this study) and compared them with those of other nursing home work

Migration research has consistently documented migrants' initial health advantage and its erosion with increasing exposure to destination contexts. However, evidence of within-individual health change across the migration process remains limited, particularly in Southern Europe, where research has largely relied on post-arrival data and indirect proxies. This article analyses whether post-migration health deterioration is socially stratified by gender and occupational status. Using retrospective pre-migration health information from the 2025 MIGHTY Survey, we compare self-rated health before d

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to establish criteria for designing health examination programs and selecting appropriate examination items for high-risk occupational groups and to apply these criteria specifically to female fishers.
METHODS: The first Delphi survey comprised five domains and 15 specific criteria for identifying relevant health screening items for high-risk occupations. The second survey included open-ended questions addressing inconsistencies identified in the first survey and sought suggestions for additional items. In the third Delphi survey, specific health sc

BACKGROUND: Sanitation work in India remains concentrated among the Scheduled Castes despite constitutional protections and modernisation. Although this concentration is widely recognised, it has not been systematically incorporated into empirical analyses examining the mechanisms through which caste operates. This paper also describes the development of variables that aim to go beyond mainstream descriptive variables. It specifically examines the association between intergenerational occupational continuity and mental health outcomes (depression, anxiety, and stress) among sanitation workers.

BACKGROUND: Industrial noise exposure is a global occupational hazard, with increasing recognition of its deleterious non-auditory effects. Although the auditory consequences of excessive noise are well-known, an emerging body of evidence suggests significant impacts on cognition, cardiovascular and metabolic functions. India with a burgeoning industrial workforce and limited occupational health surveillance, remains under-researched in this domain.
OBJECTIVES: This study investigates the physiological and sensory processing impact of occupational noise exposure among industrial workers in Gu

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major occupational concern in polyurethane foam production, where exposure may impact worker health. This study identified key VOCs and evaluated their concentrations across different sections of a polyurethane manufacturing facility. Area (n = 5) air samples were collected during routine full-load production using short-duration active sampling and analyzed by thermal desorption gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS). The results revealed marked spatial variability in VOC concentrations, with the curing section showing the highest totals. Dichl

BACKGROUND: Platform-based on-demand food delivery has expanded rapidly in China, reshaping delivery work through strict deadlines, piece-rate pay, algorithmic management, long working hours, and intensive road exposure. These conditions may increase occupational injuries and broader health risks among food delivery riders.
OBJECTIVES: This narrative review synthesizes evidence on occupational injuries and health risks among food delivery riders in China and identifies potential mechanisms and prevention strategies.
METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, and CNKI for Ch

Shift work is an essential component of modern occupational systems but represents a major source of circadian misalignment associated with gastrointestinal symptoms and selected gastrointestinal disorders. The biological pathways underlying these associations remain incompletely integrated across circadian, neuroendocrine, immune, epithelial, and microbial domains. This narrative review aimed to synthesize current evidence linking shift work with gastrointestinal dysfunction and disease while distinguishing epidemiological associations from experimental mechanistic evidence and biologically p

Background/Objectives: Teaching is a highly stressful occupation, yet the associations between occupational stress, nutritional health, and physical pain among schoolteachers remain understudied, particularly in non-Western contexts. This study examined whether high occupational stress is associated with reduced favorable dietary behaviors, as well as with the presence and prolonged duration of physical pain among Hong Kong schoolteachers. Methods: Cross-sectional data were analyzed from 267 secondary and special schoolteachers (65.5% female, mean age 41.5 years) who completed the Occupational

Public health challenges are increasingly complex, and interventions reducing the risk of one health outcome may increase the risk of another. We focus on the increased risk of occupational asthma (OA) for nurses and the decreased risk of occupational infections from contaminated surfaces from intensifying cleaning and disinfection protocols (i.e., during the COVID-19 pandemic). A risk-risk trade-off approach allows for the calculation of tolerable risks. We then determine, through a quantitative microbial risk assessment, critical concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 hygiene standards for surfaces th

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a well-known irritant that affects the eyes, respiratory tract, and skin, and long-term exposure may lead to chronic respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis, and an increased risk of lung cancer, particularly in occupational settings. The objective of this study was to evaluate occupational exposure to H2O2 among dairy processing plant workers and to characterize the associated semi-quantitative risks using the methodology of the Singapore Occupational Health Department. This research was conducted in the sterilization units of three dairy proc

OBJECTIVES: Since the US Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson decision, 17 states have imposed near-total abortion bans. These bans may negatively impact health and well-being of obstetrician-gynaecologists (OB-GYNs), due to high levels of work-related stress that the laws have created for them. The goal of the present study is to evaluate the impacts of post-Dobbs v. Jackson state abortion bans on occupational health and well-being of OB-GYNs.
METHODS: The Study of OB-GYNs in Post-Roe America is a qualitative study of 54 OB-GYNs practising in 13 of the 14 states with near-total abortion bans as
