The impact of bundled payment on the economic burden and satisfaction of patients in Close-Knit County Medical Community in China.

BACKGROUND: China is setting up a Close-Knit County Medical Community (CCMC) to connect county hospitals, township health centers, and village clinics. The medical insurance agency will count the number of insured people in the CCMC area and distribute funds to the community as a whole. Then, the county hospital will work with local health facilities to decide how to use these funds. This reform aims to improve primary healthcare services, lower medical costs, support residents' health, and boost their satisfaction with healthcare. METHODS: This study looked at data from counties in China mon

Patient privacy versus protecting the patient and the health system from harm: a case study.

A 71-year-old man who presented to hospital with chest pain and a history of cardiovascular disease was repeatedly hospitalised over the course of a month for care that included multiple investigations, intensive care, transfer to and from a metropolitan hospital, discharge, and readmissions for collapse, hemiparesis, and vision change. The medical team excluded underlying disease related to his initial chest pain and subsequent neurological symptoms. A search for (undisclosed) prior hospitalisations revealed multiple previous admissions and invasive investigations at hospitals across Australi

Regional perspectives on gestational trophoblastic disease in Turkey.

Studies in Turkey are hospital based, and there is a wide variation in reported incidences that necessitate population based-studies to determine the real incidence of gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTDs). According to hospital-based studies, the frequency of GTD is generally very high and there are also regional differences. Epidemiologic study was performed to determine the frequency of hydatidiform mole (HM) in a rural part of Turkey. According to this study, the frequency of HM was lower than the frequencies reported by most of the hospital-based studies. In a national study, an inqui

The prevalence and outcomes of in-hospital acute myocardial infarction in the Department of Veterans Affairs Health System.

BACKGROUND: Most studies of the epidemiology and treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have focused on patients who experienced onset of their symptoms in the community and then presented to the hospital. There are, however, patients whose symptoms of AMI begin after hospitalization for other medical conditions. The purposes of this study were to determine the prevalence of in-hospital AMI in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and to compare baseline characteristics, treatments, and outcomes according to whether individuals presented with AMI or had an in-hospital AMI. METHODS:

Community-centered responses to Ebola in urban Liberia: the view from below.

BACKGROUND: The West African Ebola epidemic has demonstrated that the existing range of medical and epidemiological responses to emerging disease outbreaks is insufficient, especially in post-conflict contexts with exceedingly poor healthcare infrastructures. In this context, community-based responses have proven vital for containing Ebola virus disease (EVD) and shifting the epidemic curve. Despite a surge in interest in local innovations that effectively contained the epidemic, the mechanisms for community-based response remain unclear. This study provides baseline information on community-b
