We compared results by a simplified colorimetric copper-soap method for serum free fatty acids (Clin, Chem. 19: 419, 1973, modified) with those by a gas--liquid chromatographic method. The modified method requires only 100 microliters of sample, its standard curve is linear from 0.1 to 4.0 mmol/L (reference interval for adults: 0.2 to 0.8 mmol/L), and it is suitable for use with newborns. The questions addressed in this study were whether testing first- and second-voided urine specimens yielded different results and whether selected commercial testing product (Clinitest 2 drop, Clinitest 5 drop, Tes-Tape, and Keto-Diastix) yielded similar estimates of glucosuria. The ability of bile to concentrate drugs and metabolites coupled with its general availability make it suitable for analysis and often the fluid of choice in postmorten cases requiring drug screening. The conditions and utility of the N-chlorosuccinimide/urea (NCS/urea) reagent for the selective cleavage of tryptophanyl peptide bonds in proteins is demonstrated with cytochrome c. At low concentrations of NCS/urea the oxidation of thioether side chains in cytochrome c is the predominant reaction. Methionyl residues are oxidized to sulfoxide and the heme-thioether bridge is partially cleaved. Serum free light chain measurements (sFLC) play a key role in the diagnosis and management of patients with monoclonal gammopathies. To obtain a realistic impression of between-method performance and agreement of sFLC analysis in The Netherlands, we studied results of 37 laboratories participating in 56 rounds of the Dutch External Quality Assessment (EQA) programme in the past fourteen years. Satisfactory overall method-specific between-laboratory precision was observed for both The Binding Site Freelite (mean CV κFLC 23.3% and λFLC 19.5%) and Siemens N Latex FLC (κFLC 10.8% and λFLC 15.2%).

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic exposed significant challenges in diagnostic laboratory workflows, where shortages of reagents and automation worsened the management of surges in testing demand. BACKGROUND: While previous studies have assessed the clinical values of clot waveform analysis (CWA) for detecting lupus anticoagulants (LA), there are no reports focusing on whether CWA predicts the LA sensitivity of activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) reagents.
