The influence of two photobiomodulation protocols on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (a randomized controlled clinical trial).

BACKGROUND: Controversial results have been reported regarding the impact of photobiomodulation (PBM) on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR). The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of two PBM protocols, one of them requiring a high application frequency (on days 0, 3, 7, 14, then every 2 weeks), while the second requires less frequent applications (every 3 weeks), on OIIRR accompanying orthodontic treatment. METHODS: Twenty female patients were recruited for this randomized controlled trial, requiring the therapeutic extraction of maxillary first premolar

Effects of systemic vascular photobiomodulation using LED or laser on sensory-motor recovery following a peripheral nerve injury in Wistar rats.

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is associated with considerable functional impairment. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has demonstrated positive effects regarding neuromuscular repair after PNI when applied locally to the nerve or injured muscle. However, the effects of systemic PBM with transcutaneous application over an important artery, which is also denominated vascular PBM (VPBM), remain unclear. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of VPBM with low-level laser (LLL) and light-emitting diode (LED) on gait, sensitivity and muscle morphology following a PNI. PNI was induced on Wistar rats

A split-face comparison of fractional erbium: YAG laser plus Kligman's formula vs. Kligman's formula monotherapy for facial melasma.

Melasma is a chronic hyperpigmentation disorder. Although several treatment methods are used for patients, it remains a challenging problem for physicians. Erbium-YAG laser is one of the laser treatment methods that proved its efficacy in melasma treatment. We aimed to compare the efficacy of combining the fractional Er: YAG laser and Kligman's formula with Kligman's formula alone in the treatment of melasma. Twenty female patients with bilateral melasma were randomly treated in a split-face controlled manner with a fractional Er: YAG laser followed by Kligman's formula on one side and Kligman

Effectiveness of laser adjunctive therapy for surgical treatment of gingival recession with flap graft techniques: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Various flap graft techniques in the treatment of gingival recession have already been reported in the literatures for root coverage. Laser therapy has effects of ablative, hemostatic, and decontamination. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to compare the efficacy of flap surgery combined with laser with surgery alone for treating gingival recession. The studies were searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials by two reviewers up to August 2017. The quality of RCTs was assessed by Cochrane Hand

Facial nevus depigmentosus getting remarkable repigmentation by treatment with a 308-nm excimer laser: A case report.

Nevus depigmentosus (ND) is a rare, congenital, nonprogressive depigmented lesion with irregular outline. To date, the few therapeutic approaches that have been developed to treat ND have yielded unsatisfactory results. We reported on a 6-month-old girl who presented with a ND on the right side of her face for 5 months. Treatment with a 308-nm excimer laser was started once a week at 300 mJ/cm2 and then was increased by 50-100 mJ/cm2 in each subsequent session until post-treatment erythema occurred. After 10 treatments, repigmentation in the lesion was evident and remained stable 1 month later

Photobiomodulation of a flowable matrix in a human skin ex vivo model demonstrates energy-based enhancement of engraftment integration and remodeling.

The use of dermal substitutes to treat skin defects such as ulcers has shown promising results, suggesting a potential role for skin substitutes for treating acute and chronic wounds. One of the main drawbacks with the use of dermal substitutes is the length of time from engraftment to graft take, plus the risk of contamination and failure due to this prolonged integration. Therefore, the use of adjuvant energy-based therapeutic modalities to augment and accelerate the rate of biointegration by dermal substitute engraftments is a desirable outcome. The photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy modulate
