Hyperplastic thyroid nodule masquerading as parathyroid adenoma in a patient with tubercular lymphadenitis induced hypercalcaemia.

Serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels are high or high normal in patients with parathyroid adenoma. Rarely these patients can have normal or low serum iPTH values. With sandwich immunometric assays, an exceptionally high serum iPTH level can lead to falsely low measurement due to the 'hook effect'. Here, we describe the case of a 66-year-old female patient with PTH-independent hypercalcaemia which mimicked parathyroid adenoma. A multidisciplinary team approach helped in the diagnosis and management leading to complete recovery.

Cervical cat scratch disease lymphadenitis in a patient with immunoglobulin M antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii.

We report on a young patient with chronic cervical lymphadenopathy and serological and histological evidence for infection with Bartonella henselae and Toxoplasma gondii. Serological follow-up studies, including testing for avidity of Toxoplasma-specific immunoglobulin G antibodies, assisted in the determination of the cause of the acute lymphadenitis. Our results suggest that the clinical symptoms were most likely due to cat scratch disease rather than to acute toxoplasmosis.

[A method for treating acute serous lymphadenitis by the action of novocaine block of the cervical autonomic ganglia].

Thirty-five patients with acute inflammations of the soft tissues were treated with procain blockages of the cervical sympathetic ganglia. This treatment modality has helped cut down the patients' hospitalization period by 3-4 days and did not involve therapy with other drugs, this being an important factor for patients with antibacterial drug allergies, contributing to improvement of the efficacy of the suggested method.
