The postoperative recurrence of ameloblastoma is common. However, ectopic recurrence in clinical operations is rare. A case of ectopic recurrence of ameloblastoma in the bucca region of the mandible after 15 years is presented in this paper. The causes of the ectopic recurrence were analyzed based on relevant literature.

This paper reports a patient with a history of breast cancer, who presented with altered sensation to the right lower lip and chin. An orthopantomogram showed a probable dentigerous cyst associated with an unerupted lower wisdom tooth, which was closely related to the inferior dental canal. The tooth and cyst were enucleated under general anaesthesia. The subsequent histopathology report concluded that the cyst contained metastatic adenocarcinoma from a primary breast tumour.

Recent discovery and subsequent excision of two histologically benign but unusual infiltrating intramuscular lipomas prompted a review of available literature and a collection of lipomatous disorders of interest to the head and neck surgeon. Such lesions may, by their position, cause significant symptoms. Other instances occur wherein their unusual location causes initial confusion in diagnosis. Finally, accurate histologic identification may be obscured by the inclusion of other tissues within the benign fatty tissue.

On the basis of superior outcomes from electrochemogenetherapy (ECGT) compared with electrochemotherapy in mice, we determined the efficacy of ECGT applied to spontaneous canine neoplasms. An experience with 69 osteoplastic operations with formalinized homografts in 66 patients having various affections and injuries of the lower jaw is summarized. The grafts were preserved in 0.5% formalin solution or gel containing 0.25% formalin and 0.25% betapropiolactone as sterilizing agents. Positive issues during the follow-up from 4 months to 4 years 7 months were noted in 60 operative procedures, negative--in 9. It is concluded that the formalinized homobone shows good osteoplastic properties and may be used as a plastic material in reparative operations on the lower jaw bone.

Neoplasms of the head and neck constitute a broad spectrum of benign and malignant entities. When treatment involves resection, assessment of the surgical margins represents an important component of the pathologic examination. Margin status is an important indicator of a complete surgical resection. The ability to generalize conclusions such as 'safe distance' measurements from work performed mSCCa or cutaneous malignancy to other types of neoplasms in the head and neck region seems limited. This article reviews conditions and considerations for reliable margin assessment and interpretation.
