An Etiology-Stratified Bibliometric Analysis and Narrative Review of Virtual Surgical Planning, Patient-Specific Implants, and 3D Printing in Mandibular Reconstruction After Ameloblastoma Resection (2010-2026).

Evidence on virtual surgical planning (VSP), patient-specific implants (PSI), and three-dimensional (3D) printing in mandibular reconstruction comes largely from oncologic or mixed-etiology cohorts, although patients with ameloblastoma are younger, are not irradiated, and need long-term surveillance and dental rehabilitation. This review combined a bibliometric analysis of Scopus records (2010-2026) with an etiology-stratified narrative review. Records were coded into eight etiology categories by a language model checked against manual coding (κ = 0.78), and 78 clinical studies were classified…

Vascularized iliac crest flap with double musculocutaneous skin islands for reconstruction of composite buccal and mandibular defects after gingival squamous cell carcinoma resection: A case report.

Mandibular gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) is a challenging malignancy often requiring extensive surgical resection and complex reconstruction. This study presents a 69-year-old male with left mandibular GSCC, treated with segmental mandibulectomy and selective neck dissection, followed by reconstruction using a deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) vascularized iliac crest flap with double musculocutaneous skin islands. Preoperative virtual surgical planning and 3D-printed surgical guides facilitated precise osteotomy and optimal flap design. The harvested iliac flap provided robust vas

Analysis of the effects of mandibular reconstruction based on microvascular free flaps after oncological resections in 21 patients, using 3D planning, surgical templates and individual implants.

INTRODUCTION: Post- resection defects in the area of the head and neck frequently result in functional impairment of the masticatory system and unaesthetic outcome in the facial appearance. In pediatric population they exert a devastating effect on speech development, breathing and facial growth leading to secondary deformations which are extremely challenging in reconstruction by means of conventional surgery protocols. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 21 patients (14 males/ 7 females) aged 4-17 years old, treated between 2015 and 2019 due to malignant/benign tumors or congenital deformities requiring

Exploring the relationship between the level of facial nerve injury and surgical outcome: Application of a new anatomical classification system in a limited cohort undergoing marginal mandibular nerve reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of the marginal mandibular nerve (MMN) is important for achieving optimal outcomes in the treatment of facial paralysis. However, the heterogeneity of injuries, ranging from extensive proximal facial nerve injuries to isolated distal MMN injuries, complicates meaningful outcome comparisons. This study assessed a new anatomical classification system for stratifying facial nerve injuries by injury location. The aim was to study MMN outcomes in proximal versus distal injuries and determine whether this system could provide a more reliable way to compare surgical results

Reconstructing Critical-Sized Mandibular Defects in a Rabbit Model: Enhancing Angiogenesis and Facilitating Bone Regeneration via a Cell-Loaded 3D-Printed Hydrogel-Ceramic Scaffold Application.

In this study, we propose a spatially patterned 3D-printed nanohydroxyapatite (nHA)/beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)/collagen composite scaffold incorporating human dental pulp-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hDP-MSCs) for bone regeneration in critical-sized defects. We investigated angiogenesis and osteogenesis in a rabbit critical-sized mandibular defect model treated with this engineered construct. The critical and synergistic role of collagen coating and incorporation of stem cells in the regeneration process was confirmed by including a cell-free uncoated 3D-printed nHA/β-TCP scaffold, a

Reconstruction of a Large Posttraumatic Mandibular Defect Using Bone Tissue Engineering With Fresh-Frozen Humeral Allograft Seeded With Autologous Bone Marrow Aspirate and Vascularized With a Radial Forearm Flap.

INTRODUCTION: Currently, vascularized autologous bone transplantation is considered the gold standard for large mandibular continuity defect reconstruction. Donor site morbidity is a major concern. Therefore, bone tissue engineering (BTE) seems to be the ideal solution. Fresh-frozen bone allograft is the closest material to autologous bone. The purpose of this clinical report is to show a new technique of large mandibular continuity defect reconstruction using a fresh-frozen humeral allograft seeded with autologous iliac bone marrow aspirate and vascularized with a radial forearm flap. Lingual Application of Pre-Bent Reconstruction Plate for Segmental Mandibular Defect: Easy and Accurate Method Through the Buccal Drilling Approach Using Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing Surgical Guides.

To prevent or treat for complications of reconstruction plate, such as metal plate fracture, plate exposure, and formation of skin fistula, the use of reconstruction plates on the mandibular lingual aspect has been introduced. However, this method increases the difficulty of surgery and lengthens the surgery time. In this study, the authors aimed to present a method to apply for reconstruction plates on the lingual side of the mandible to overcome the complications associated with the use of these plates. In the proposed method, the reconstruction plate was bent and fixed by a specially design

Mandibular reconstruction using iliac bone and great auricular nerve grafts and oral rehabilitation using osseointegrated implants in a patient with a large ossifying fibroma: a 10-year follow-up study.

Ossifying fibromas are bone-related benign neoplasms that are characterized by well-demarcated lesions composed of fibrocellular tissue and mineralized material with varying appearances. Although small lesions are asymptomatic, they may cause enlargement of the affected jaw and rarely require reconstructive or restorative treatments for aesthetic and functional problems. In this study, we report a 35-year-old woman who underwent multidisciplinary treatment for a large ossifying fibroma of the mandible. A segmental mandibular resection was performed, and immediate reconstruction was performed u
