OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence, time of appearance, treatment, and evolution of tumors appearing in liver transplant recipients at our hospital.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We undertook a retrospective analysis of our series of liver transplants between 1990 and 2005. Patients who died during the immediate postoperative period were excluded.

The histopathologic findings reported in 254 consecutive urinary bladder biopsies were reviewed. Evidence of urinary schistosomiasis was identified in 88 biopsies (35%) and malignant neoplasms were diagnosed in 60 cases (24%). Nine out of 60 (15%) cases of bladder cancer had urinary bladder schistosomiasis and the remaining 51 cases (85%) had no clinical evidence of schistosomiasis. Mcl-1 protein is a new member of the bcl-2 protein family. It is believed to be a blocker of apoptosis but might be different from bcl-2 in the control of apoptosis. A survey was carried out on the neoplasms of horses, donkeys and mules which are recorded in the registration files of the Section of Pathology of the Veterinary Research Institute, Onderstepoort, in the Republic of South Africa, over a 40-year period from 1935 to 1974. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the scrotum is an uncommon neoplasm. It has been described in many different occupations and is associated with a myriad of carcinogens, yet the etiology still remains a mystery. This is the first report of its occurrence in a radiation technologist. Additionally, the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy in SCC has been advocated as a safe method of limiting the morbidity associated with bilateral ilioinguinal dissections. Primary thymic carcinoma is a rare neoplasm that in contradistinction to thymoma, is not supposed to be associated with a paraneoplastic syndrome. A 73-year-old man, with new onset of disorientation, was found to have an elevated serum calcium level as the cause. Computed tomography demonstrated a mediastinal mass, pericardial invasion, and metastases to the lung. Examination of a biopsy specimen revealed thymic squamous cell carcinoma. Thus, a paraneoplastic syndrome, in this case hypercalcemia, does not exclude primary carcinoma of the thymus.
