OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical features of Toxic shock syndrome.
METHOD: The clinical information of two cases was analysed.
RESULT: It indicates that this disease is caused by TSST-1 which is created by staphylococcus-aureus. The clinical features are acute toxic-shock syndrome with many complications and high mortality.
CONCLUSION: More attention should be payed for it.

Some nitric oxide gas (NO) produced in the sinuses and nasal cavity is absorbed before leaving the nose. To measure production and absorption, we introduced NO at different concentrations into one nostril while sampling the NO leaving the opposite nostril with the soft palate closed. The quantity of NO gas produced in six normal subjects (amount leaving plus the amount absorbed) averaged 352 nl/min and was the same at gas flows ranging from 8 to 347 ml/min and at 10 l/min. Two neonates are presented who had glial heterotopias of the nose, one with and the other without intracranial connections. It is important to distinguish these malformations from nasofrontal encephaloceles in order to avoid inadvertent exposure of the brain during surgical removal of the mass lesions. The distinction between them may not be clear clinically because of their similar pathogenesis.

Cold-induced rhinorrhea (CIR) is a commonly experienced discomfort not previously addressed in the medical literature. In a 2-part study, we assessed the prevalence and described the characteristics of CIR and evaluated the efficacy of an anticholinergic nasal spray in its treatment. In Part 1, 90 general medical patients at a ski resort clinic were asked to describe their symptoms associated with cold exposure. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a clinical condition often associated with internal disorders and immunologic abnormalities. The diagnosis is deduced solely from clinical examination because no histologic or laboratory changes are pathognomonic. The lesions are quite painful and can be particularly disabling. Endoscopy of the nose is a recently-adopted supplementary procedure for examining the tear drainage system. This examination is performed under local anesthesia with the patient on the operating table. We use a Hopkins endoscope with 30 degrees and 70 degrees deflections, diameter 2.7 mm and 4 mm. Endoscopy prior to dacryocystorhinostomy enables the examiner to judge whether the nasal cavity is large enough for an osteotomy.
