PURPOSE: Extravasation, or leakage of vesicant drugs into subcutaneous tissues, causes serious complications such as induration and necrosis in chemotherapy-treated patients. As macroscopic observation may overlook symptoms during infusion, we focused on skin temperature changes at puncture sites and studied thermographic patterns related to induration or necrosis caused by extravasation.

White rosettes are shiny white structures seen as four oval-shaped points that come together in the center. They resemble four-leaf clover [1]. Earlier it was thought they were specific for actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma, but they are noted in many other conditions [2]. With polarized light dermoscopy, it is evident that rosettes are seen only and they are due to the optical effect between polarized light and follicular structures [3]. Dizygotic monochorionic twin pregnancies can result in blood chimerism due to in utero twin-to-twin exchange of stem cells. In this case, we examined the proportion of allogeneic red blood cells by flow cytometry and the proportion of allogeneic nucleated cells by digital polymerase chain reaction at 7 months and again at 5 years. We found an increase in the proportion of allogeneic cells from 63% to 89% in one twin, and a similar increase in autologous cells in the other twin from 57% to 84%. During the summer 2015, we faced many Loxosceles rufescens cases of bites having led to extensive integumental necrosis whose features and singular evolution seems important to report.

Studies have consistently demonstrated that women with diabetes are more likely than men to have a LDL-C above treatment goals. However, this pattern of gender gap has not been observed in many studies for HgbA1c goal attainment. Although the reasons for this are not fully understood, intolerance to statin therapy in women due to differences in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics may play a role as female sex and aging has been associated with statin-associated myopathy. The concept of gender gap is useful for identifying at-risk groups for prevention and treatment efforts.

PURPOSE: Clinical examination skills are poorly evaluated by theoretical tests. We observed the clinical examination of real patients by 6th year medical students.
METHODS: Four internists involved in teaching activities defined 11 clinical examination items, with two objective performance criteria each. The students were evaluated in two internal medicine departments during the rotation preceding or following their national graduation test. Scores by item and by criterion and an overall score were calculated and correlated with their rank at the national graduation test.

Interstitial loop coarsening by Ostwald ripening can provide insight into single point defects but is very difficult to observe in α-iron and many other metals where nanoscale vacancy clusters dissociate and annihilate loops. We show that by implanting helium in the samples at a carefully chosen energy, it is possible to observe Ostwald ripening of loops by transmission electron microscopy during in situ isochronal annealings.
