This paper presents a hemispherical fiber optic photoacoustic sensor (H-FOPAS) for simultaneous multigas detection, aiming to address the limitations of traditional spherical photoacoustic sensors that struggle to efficiently utilize both angular and radial resonances for multigas sensing. The sensor integrates a hemispherical acoustic cavity with two silicon cantilever microphones (SCMs) featuring distinct Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity lengths, enabling high-sensitivity dual-channel photoacoustic signal detection, and utilizes white-light interferometry (WLI) based frequency division multiplexing

BACKGROUND: Continuous vital sign monitoring is critical but often labor-intensive. Fiberoptic technologies, like the SMART MAT, offer non-invasive assessment. Adapting this for a seated posture addresses clinical needs by promoting safe patient mobilization and reducing complications associated with prolonged bed rest.
OBJECTIVES: To validate the accuracy of the sitting SMART MAT for respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), oxygen saturation (SpO2), and systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP) against established clinical reference standards.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study compar

BACKGROUND: Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS) is an extremely rare disorder characterized by progressive acro-osteolysis. A unique facial structure and deformity of the cervical spine are associated with a difficult airway. Although several reports describe general anesthesia with orotracheal intubation for patients with HCS, there have been no reports of nasotracheal intubation with a risk of skull base fracture. We describe nasotracheal intubation for oral surgery in a patient with HCS.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old girl with HCS was scheduled for dental surgery. Preoperative computed tomograp

This article reports quantitative measurements of intracranial volume, optic canal area, and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) for a cohort of 124 patients with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia/McCune-Albright Syndrome (FD/MAS), previously used to determine risks for developing optic disc edema [1]. Of these, 7 subjects were diagnosed with optic disc edema. OSIRIX imaging analysis software was used to collect intracranial volume and optic canal diameter for 107 patients, via 3D multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) of ≤5 mm axial CT slices. BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system, with optic neuritis (ON) being a common early manifestation. Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness may be a biomarker of neuroaxonal damage in MS patients. We sought to evaluate changes in RNFL thickness over 4 years in Omani MS patients with or without ON in comparison to a healthy control group.
METHODS: This retrospective case-control study involved 27 MS patients and 25 healthy controls. Optical coherence tomography was performed upon first diagnosis and at a four-year follow-up. Dif

BACKGROUND: Postoperative visual recovery is a major concern after transsphenoidal surgery. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can visualize the anatomy of the retina, and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thinning reflects loss of optic nerve axons. Visual-evoked potential (VEP) is an electrophysiological response that confirms the nerve conductance. Therefore, these factors reflecting the optic nerve condition may be closely associated with the visual outcome after transsphenoidal surgery.
METHODS: A total of 124 eyes in 62 patients with sellar tumor who underwent transsphenoidal surgery wer

INTRODUCTION: Circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) analysis by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) has become essential for the assessment of glaucoma patients. The foveal projection is conventionally below the disc plane, creating an angle with the horizontal meridian, the disc-fovea angle. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of adjustment of cpRNFL analysis based on this angle.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study concerns 40 control eyes and 55 eyes affected with and followed for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). After precise localization of th

INTRODUCTION: Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness analysis is a subjective method of analysis of glaucomatous damage. As almost 50% of retinal ganglion cells are located in the macula, assessment of macular thickness can be an alternative method for diagnosis of glaucoma.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the changes in macular and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in controls, glaucoma suspects and glaucoma patients using time domain optical coherence tomography (TD-OCT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Macular and peripapillary RNFL scans were performed in one eye of 70 controls, 35 gl
