Hospital charitable lotteries: taking a gamble on systems thinking.

RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The presence of lotteries can be witnessed worldwide. Charitable lotteries are often portrayed as 'good works', and recently, hospitals have utilized them as a popular fundraising vehicle to raise necessary funds to help achieve organizational goals and objectives. Research indicates that lotteries contribute to gambling-related harms; however, research into charitable lotteries has been underdeveloped. Both the gambling and the health care industries are complex and evolving, consisting of many interacting stakeholders with often different and competing interes

Increasing specificity in perceptual development: infants' detection of nested levels of multimodal stimulation.

This research assessed the development of infants' sensitivity to two nested amodal temporal relations in audible and visible events. Their detection of global temporal synchrony between visible and audible impacts and internal temporal structure nested within each impact specifying object composition (single versus compound objects) was assessed. Infants of 4, 7, and 11 weeks of age were habituated to a single and a compound object striking a surface and then received test trials depicting a change in synchrony or object composition. Results indicated an interaction between age and condition

Evidence-based construction and validation of an agent-based model of community integrated care for older adults living with dementia.

OBJECTIVE: Community dementia care involves interacting patients, caregivers, and formal care providers whose long-term dynamics are difficult to characterize with single-component empirical studies. We constructed and assessed a baseline agent-based model (ABM) to establish a transparent, inspectable reference scenario against which future computational experiments on organizational configurations can be evaluated. METHODS: A fully rule-based ABM of community dementia care was developed using prior empirical studies, published literature, policy documents, and structured expert consultation.

Do no harm? How health care management research can advance environmentally sustainable health care.

ISSUE: Health care organizations face pressure to advance environmental sustainability. Core challenges include pursuing distant-future goals (e.g., climate neutrality by 2050), leading sustainability initiatives beyond formal authority, and making mitigation decisions whose benefits accrue in the future and outside the organization. CRITICAL THEORETICAL ANALYSIS: Dominant management theories tend to treat the future as a strategic context or planning horizon rather than as an object of sustained organizational work. Long-term orientation is often assumed rather than explained. Leadership is

BACKGROUND: Child maltreatment (CM) is a major public health issue. Data collection, analysis, and reporting are widely recognized as key components in developing policies and programs aimed at preventing child maltreatment. Unfortunately, CM is significantly under-coded by healthcare professionals (HCPs) in hospitals. Due to a lack of studies, causes of this under-coding are not fully understood. OBJECTIVE: The aim was to identify and understand challenging factors leading to under-coding of CM in hospitals in Germany and Sweden. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: The sample includes 28 HCPs from di
