Patient knowledge and acceptance of radiation safety measures correlated to actual exposure records: A survey study.

With the growing prevalence of the use of ionising radiation as a method of medical imaging, it is important to promote patient involvement in the effect of ionising radiation and its relation to medical imaging. Therefore, it is of interest to assess knowledge and acceptance of radiation safety practices amongst 255 adult patients and to compare the results of this survey to patients recorded exposure to radiation. The survey indicated that only 38% of respondents had a high level of understanding of radiation safety practices and only 42% accepted all recommended practices. Patients in the s

Patient safety culture from the perspective of home healthcare providers and family caregivers: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Patient safety culture (PSC) in home healthcare centres (HHCs) remains insufficiently examined compared with hospital settings. HHCs are licensed facilities that coordinate and deliver skilled nursing, rehabilitation and other professional services directly to patients' own homes. The present study investigates the dimensions of PSC in HHCs from the perspectives of both healthcare providers and family caregivers. METHODS: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach and the conventional content analysis method (Graneheim and Lundman). Participants (n=15) included managers…

Influence of nursing interns' moral sensitivity on patient safety competency: The mediating effect of ethical action.

BACKGROUND: Nursing interns play a dual role in clinical practice, acting as both potential risks to and defenders of patient safety. Although moral sensitivity is recognized as a foundational element for patient safety, the specific mechanism translating it into actual safety competency, particularly the mediating role of ethical action, remains underexplored. AIM: To examine the mediating effect of ethical action on the relationship between moral sensitivity and patient safety competency among nursing interns. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was reported following the Strengthening the Re…

Randomized Controlled Trial Evaluating the Safety, Efficacy, and Patient Comfort of a Single-Use Electronic Colonoscope.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Although reusable colonoscopes remain the clinical gold standard, persistent microbial biofilms compromise reprocessing efficacy and increase cross-contamination risk. This study evaluated a novel single-use colonoscope compared to a conventional device across key clinical and patient-centered outcomes. METHODS: In a single-blind randomized trial, 100 patients (aged 18-80 years) undergoing conscious sedation colonoscopy were assigned (1:1) to a single-use colonoscope (Endofresh XZING-C200B) or a conventional colonoscope (Olympus CF-H260). Primary endpoints included patient

Patient Safety and Care After Outpatient Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP): A Single-Center Experience in Germany.

The current goal of adapting care structures in the German healthcare system is to increase the provision of interventional treatments in outpatient settings. Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures were traditionally performed in an inpatient setting until 2022. However, with the introduction of a new Ambulatory Surgery Contract (according to Section 115b, Paragraph 1 of the Social Code, Book V) on January 1, 2023, these procedures are now intended to be carried out more strictly on an outpatient basis, meaning that hospitalization will no longer be reimbursed in most

Invisible harm in patient safety: a framework and definition for preventable psychological harm in cancer care.

BACKGROUND: While patient safety is receiving increasing attention in healthcare services research and policies, it is mainly centred around prevention of physical harm. Preventable psychological harm (PPH) remains invisible in reports and quality measurements. As patients with cancer are particularly vulnerable due to the severity of their condition and therapies, they are exposed to risks such as non-physical adverse events. Recently, incidents of psychological harm have gained more attention in patient safety research, but a common and accepted definition and classification are missing. AI…

Radio Frequency Tagging-enabled patient monitoring: integrating mobility tracking with early warning systems for enhanced safety.

Ensuring patient safety in healthcare environments requires continuous monitoring systems capable of identifying early warning signs of clinical risk. Traditional surveillance methods often fail to capture meaningful patterns in patient movement, limiting their ability to prevent incidents such as falls, prolonged immobility, or unnoticed health deterioration. Radio Frequency Tagging technology has been increasingly adopted for real-time patient tracking; however, existing systems are generally limited to location detection and lack predictive insights into patient behaviour. To overcome these…
