[Patient satisfaction as health care outcome--the example of surgical correction of the nasal septum].

BACKGROUND: Presented is a study, that investigates the relevance of patient satisfaction as evaluative criteria for effectiveness of medical measures exemplary in patients who underwent surgery for a deviated nasal septum. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A standardised Instrument was specifically developed and pretested (n = 30). In January 1995 all working members of a German sickness fund hospitalised between March and September 1994 for ICD-470 (deviated nasal septum) were surveyed retrospectively by means of a written questionnaire. The response rate was 85.2% (n = 334, 88.8% male; medium age: 35.…

Patient-partner satisfaction with semirigid penile prostheses for Peyronie's disease: a 5-year followup study.

The long-term acceptance of and satisfaction with penile prostheses were assessed in patients with Peyronie's disease and their partners. From 1985 to 1987, 50 men with advanced Peyronie's disease and associated erectile dysfunction were treated with a semirigid penile implant without additional plaque surgery. A total of 48 patients and 29 partners was reassessed at a followup of at least 60 months. Only 23 patients (48%) and 12 partners (40%) were totally satisfied with the long-term functional result and would repeat the same operation. Among the 25 dissatisfied patients (52%) loss of compl

Patient satisfaction with the implementation of the family medicine model at Nassem Health Centre, Kuwait.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Primary health care centres (PHCCs) are the foundation stone of Kuwait's public healthcare system, providing accessible and comprehensive services. Patient satisfaction is a critical indicator of healthcare quality and is associated with improved adherence to medical advice and better health outcomes. Despite international evidence supporting structured family medicine and appointment-based systems, Kuwait's PHCCs continue to operate primarily on a walk-in basis. This study aimed to describe patient satisfaction with a family medicine appointment clinic at the Nassem…

Clinical and Patient Satisfaction Outcomes from Southern Osseointegrated Fixtures for Craniofacial Reconstruction: A Retrospective Study.

This study reports the clinical outcomes from using Southern osseointegrated fixtures (SOFs) for retention of auricular, nasal, and orbital silicone prosthetics. Osseointegrated implants are widely used in the craniofacial skeleton, but data specific to the use of SOFs are more limited. A retrospective review was conducted of 16 patients who underwent implantation of SOFs between 2013 and 2024 at a large London teaching hospital. Data were collected from Electronic Patient Records and post-implantation surveys to assess patient satisfaction, prosthesis use, and complication rates. Descriptive …

Patient satisfaction with long-term cosmetic outcomes of transumbilical vs. periumbilical incisions in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the standard technique due to its advantages, such as smaller incisions, less pain, and faster recov … ling, or a history of previous umbilical surgery were excluded. The primary outcome was the overall patient satisfaction score regarding the long-term cosmetic appearance of the umbilical scar. Secondary outcomes included scar characteristics assessed using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) and the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), as well as incisional …

Evaluation of recovery profile and patient satisfaction: Propofol versus sevoflurane-based anesthesia in ambulatory surgery.

Ambulatory surgery requires anesthetic approaches that enable rapid recovery with minimal complications and high patient satisfaction. Propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) and sevoflurane-based inhalational anesthesia are both preferred options due to their favorable pharmacokinetics, through their recovery profiles differ. This prospective comparative study involved 30 adult patients (ASA I-II) undergoing elective ambulatory surgery, randomly assigned to receive either propofol (Group P) or sevoflurane (Group S) anesthesia. Recovery-related parameters-including eye opening, extu…

Patient Perspectives of Intestinal Ultrasound in IBD: A Quantitative Evaluation of Satisfaction and Diagnostic Preference.

PURPOSE: Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) has been shown to be an accurate, non-invasive, point-of-care tool for monitoring disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). While its diagnostic performance is well-established, there is a notable gap in research related to patient perspectives regarding the role of IUS in IBD management, including its impact on the patient-provider relationship, which has not been previously studied. METHODS: We conducted a quantitative study with a 21-question Likert scale (0-10) survey administered to patients undergoing IUS during routine IBD clinic visits.

Two Endoscopic Surgical Approaches to Facial Rejuvenation: A Longitudinal Study on Safety and Patient Satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: Face lift techniques have greatly evolved in the last decades. Compared with more traditional methods, an endoscopic approach has the advantage of providing access to deeper structures while reducing extensive dissection of the face. The main objectives of this study are to assess the postoperative complications, aesthetic results, and patient satisfaction following 2 different face lift approaches. METHODS: We conducted a hybrid longitudinal observational study. According to patients' preference, an upper two-thirds face lift (using a minimal endoscopic approach with blepharoplas…

The effects of levothyroxine monotherapy versus combination therapy on quality of life and patient satisfaction.

INTRODUCTION: Hypothyroidism is a relatively common condition, which generally cannot be reversed. Hypothyroid individuals are dependent on provision of exogenous thyroid hormone as a lifetime therapy. Levothyroxine therapy provides satisfactory treatment for most. However, a subset of patients are not restored to their baseline quality of life. AREAS COVERED: As discussed here, a number of solutions have been tried, including addressing accompanying conditions, rigorous titration of therapy, and combination therapy with levothyroxine and liothyronine. The latter has limited success with impr

Patient Satisfaction with Aesthetic Outcomes Following OnabotulinumtoxinA Treatment for Chronic Migraine: A Cross-Sectional Study.

OnabotulinumtoxinA (OnaBoNT-A) is approved for chronic migraine prevention and follows the PREEMPT protocol with injections in the glabellar and forehead regions. While aesthetic changes are considered a side effect, their effect on patient satisfaction has not been thoroughly assessed. This study evaluated patient satisfaction with facial aesthetic outcomes after repeated OnaBoNT-A treatment for chronic migraine. Conducted at specialist headache centers, it included adult patients with chronic migraine who had received at least three OnaBoNT-A cycles. Participants completed a structured quest…

Using percentage of maximal possible improvement to predict high patient satisfaction following the Latarjet procedure.

BACKGROUND: Outcome thresholds such as the minimal clinically important difference, patient acceptable symptomatic state, and substantial clinical benefit are commonly used to define meaningful clinical improvement. However, these measures apply uniform cutoffs that do not account for individual baseline scores. Maximal possible improvement (MPI) offers a patient-specific approach by considering the maximal potential gain in function or reduction in pain. The percentage of MPI (%MPI) that correlates with high postoperative patient satisfaction following the Latarjet procedure (LP) has not been…
