Is comorbid Obsessive-compulsive Personality Disorder responsible for a longer duration of untreated illness in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) is marked by a pervasive preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and control, often overlapping with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in terms of rigid and repetitive behaviors. While OCD behaviors are ego-dystonic and confined to specific areas of life, OCPD behaviors are ego-syntonic and affect overall functioning. Although the relationship between OCD and OCPD has been object of investigation, the impact of OCPD comorbidity on OCD remains underexplored. This study examines potential clinical differences between …

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms in pregnancy: Their relationship with obsessive beliefs and obsessive-compulsive personality traits.

Literature findings are limited and inconsistent on the relationship between obsessive beliefs and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) and t … tance/control of thoughts and of responsibility/threat estimation predicted OCS while the belief of perfectionism/certainty did not predict any dimension of OCS. It is noteworthy that most observed relationships between obsessive beliefs and OCS remained even after controlling for variables of anxiety and depression, suggesting that obsessive beliefs have a spe …

Cognitive psychophysiological treatment of bodily-focused repetitive behaviors in adults: An open trial.

BACKGROUND: Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), such as hair pulling, skin picking, and nail biting, are repetitive, destructive, and … tment. The decrease in symptoms was maintained at the 6-month follow-up, with a further decrease in perfectionism. CONCLUSION: BFRBs can be reliably assessed as a tic spectrum disorder rather than as part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum. The CoPs model may offer a complementary treatment for BFRBs.

Effects of early childhood trauma on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: There is a paucity of studies that have investigated the assumption that early childhood trauma is associated with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). The current study is the first to simultaneously investigate relationships among early childhood trauma, cortisol activity, and cortisol stress reactivity to psychosocial stress in a sample of well-screened CFS patients. We also examined whether self-critical perfectionism (SCP) plays a mediating role in the potential relationship between early trauma and neurobiological stress res…

The majority of professionally active women diagnosed with eating disorders may be at risk of work addiction: an overlooked comorbidity.

BACKGROUND: Work addiction (WA) has been previously linked to several diseases and disorders, but there is scarce literature on its association with eating disorders (EDs). Both WA and EDs share similar etiological factors (notably rigid perfectionism) and clinical features. The aim of this study was to provide an initial overview of the literature on this potential comorbidity, and investigate the co-occurrence of EDs and WA, and their relationship with sociodemographic and work-related variables, health, and personality. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE: In a pen-and-pencil cross-sectional study,…
