The evolution of hypospadias publications: A bibliometric approach.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Although the increasing prevalence of hypospadias has been reported in many countries, there is a lack of bibliometric studies that make a holistic assessment of the publications about this issue. This study aims to make a holistic evaluation, latest developments, and trend topics about hypospadias publications between 1980 and 2018 through bibliometric analysis. METHODS: All the publications about hypospadias published in the Web of Science index between 1980 and 2018 were downloaded and analyzed using bibliometric methods. The Spearman's correlation coefficient was uti

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: A scientometric analysis of publications during 1980-2018.

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a subtype of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with a potentially progressive course to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis with its complications, or even hepatocellular carcinoma. NAFLD is a rapidly growing chronic liver disease, with a global prevalence of about 25%, with a significant increase in the last 2 decades, changing the landscape of hepatology. This study aimed to undertake a bibliometric global analysis of research literature focusing on NASH. METHODS: We searched the Scopus database to identify all articles pertaining to "non-alc

The quality of methods reporting in parasitology experiments.

There is a growing concern both inside and outside the scientific community over the lack of reproducibility of experiments. The depth and detail of reported methods are critical to the reproducibility of findings, but also for making it possible to compare and integrate data from different studies. In this study, we evaluated in detail the methods reporting in a comprehensive set of trypanosomiasis experiments that should enable valid reproduction, integration and comparison of research findings. We evaluated a subset of other parasitic (Leishmania, Toxoplasma, Plasmodium, Trichuris and Schis

Current themes in neuroimaging studies of reading.

This editorial provides a summary of the highlights from 11 new papers that have been published in a special issue of Brain and Language on the neurobiology of reading. The topics investigate reading mechanisms in both adults and children. Several of the findings illustrate how responses in the left ventral occipito-temporal cortex, and other reading areas, change with learning, expertise and the task: In the early stages of reading acquisition, learning/expertise increases activation in reading areas as well as in an attentionally-controlled, learning circuit. In later stages, expertise and e

The most cited articles in hand surgery over the past 20-plus years: a modern-day reading list.

PURPOSE: To create a current reading list of the hand surgery articles most commonly cited in the last 20-plus years. METHODS: Using the Web of Science Citation Index Search, we searched "hand" and "wrist" in the orthopedic, surgery, and sport sciences research areas. We then reviewed the articles and chose the 50 most commonly cited articles related to hand surgery. Articles were categorized as clinical or basic science. Clinical articles were subcategorized as either therapeutic, prognostic, diagnostic, or economic/decision analysis and assigned a level of evidence rating. We calculated the
