BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Pseudomyxoma peritonei syndrome is a rare disease arising from a perforated appendiceal adenoma. The syndrome is characterized by progressive accumulation of mucinous ascites and tumor within the peritoneal cavity. Direct extension of pseudomyxoma peritonei to the pleural cavity is uncommon and has been associated with surgical penetration of the diaphragm at the time of cytoreduction.
METHODS: We review the case of a patient who presented with mucoid peritoneal and pleural fluid consistent with spontaneous pleural spread of pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive neoplasm originating from the serosal surfaces of the pleural or peritoneal cavity. The following article describes two cases of metastatic mesothelioma to the oral cavity; one involves the tongue, the other involves the mandible. Different forms of peritonitis were observed in 209 patients. Generalized results of treatment have shown positive effects of the complex treatment including preoperative management, timely radical operation aimed at liquidation of the source of peritonitis, lavage of the abdominal cavity and adequate drainage and finally, intensive therapy in the postoperative period. Lethality in generalized peritonitis was 11.1%.

We report a case of perforated Meckel's diverticulum with aseptic peritonitis in a 17-day-old neonate. The baby had been brought to the hospital with fever and abdominal distention. The analysis of operative interventions performed for acute cholecystitis in 3324 patients was carried out. Local peritonitis was revealed in 149 (52.3%) patients, the diffuse one--in 136 (47.7%). An urgent liver echinococcectomy due to cyst rupture and peritonitis was performed in 15 children, aged 7-14 years. 10 patients were operated on laparoscopically, 5 children had an open operation. A 4-throacar access was used. After aspiration of free hydatid fluid from the peritoneal cavity, a chitin capsule was aspirated. A fibrous capsule was processed with betadine 1% solution. The cyst cavity was drained. All patients received albendazole (10 mg/kg) during 4 weeks postoperatively. Laparoscopic method proved to be more preferable then open technique.
