Assessing persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection using the Beck Depression Inventory: disease processes and other potential confounds.

Symptoms of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and somatic symptoms of depression overlap, confounding clinical assessments of persons with HIV infection. This research examined the extent of this confounding. In Study 1, 71 persons with HIV infection demonstrated high rates of depression on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). However, depression scores correlated with symptoms of HIV infection. In Study 2, 63 persons with HIV infection also demonstrated high rates of depression on the BDI, and depression was again related to symptoms of HIV disease; specifically, persistent fatigue

Large amounts of neocortical beta A4 deposits without neuritic plaques nor tangles in a psychometrically assessed, non-demented person.

An 88-year-old mentally normal woman (Blessed test score = 27) had very large amounts (397/mm2) of deposits stained by anti-beta A4 serum in the first temporal gyrus. Senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles were lacking on sections stained with the Bodian's silver method, with anti-tau and anti-paired helical filament (anti-PHF) antibodies. The following beta A4 deposits were found in decreasing order of frequency: diffuse (64.8%), stellate (24.4%), primitive (10.2%), classic (0.6%) plaques. Compact plaques were not observed. Diffuse deposits predominated in layers I, III and IV. On the con

Refining personality assessments by combining MCMI high point profiles and MCMI codes. Part III. MMPI code 24/42.

In this study it has been shown that the addition of MCMI high point code data to the MMPI 24/42 code type serves to clarify contradictory MMPI descriptors and produces three distinct clusters. These MMPI/MCMI clusters comprise an interpersonally acting-out group, an interpersonally acting-in group, and an emotionally acting-out group. These groups were useful in determining different roles for the MMPI 2 and 4 scales insofar as they relate to both personality (Axis II) and its clinical consequences (Axis I). The results of this study also lend support to the utility of combining objective ass

Explainable Machine Learning Model for Personalized Assessment of the Need for Intensive Care in Patients with Myasthenia Gravis Based on Phenotype and Inflammatory Markers.

BACKGROUND: Early identification of myasthenia gravis (MG) severe exacerbations that require intensive care unit (ICU) admission remains challenging due disease highly heterogeneous. Existing models seldom incorporate phenotype stratification, limiting interpretability and clinical utility. AIM: This study aimed to develop an explainable machine learning (ML) model to assess phenotype-specific risk factors and predict ICU admission for patients with MG. DESIGN AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 319 hospitalized patients with MG. We utilized clinical variables and systemic inflamm

Digital Versus in-Person Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment and Postoperative Outcomes in Low-Risk Patients: A Protocol for a Single-Centre Cohort Study.

Pre-anaesthetic assessment is essential for identifying perioperative risk and optimising patient safety. Digital alternatives, including video consultation and structured electronic health record (EHR) review, may improve efficiency, but comparative evidence regarding postoperative safety remains limited. We hypothesise that digital pre-anaesthetic assessment modalities will be associated with low rates of major postoperative complications in selected low-risk patients. This protocol describes a single-centre study with retrospective data collection including adult patients scheduled for elec

High-Temporal-Resolution Global Positioning System Data Are Not Necessary for Mobility-Based Assessments of Long-Term Outdoor Personal Exposures.

High temporal frequency global positioning system (GPS) data are increasingly employed in mobility-based exposure assessments, yet their advantages over lower-frequency data remain uncertain for long-term applications. Understanding how GPS sampling rates affect exposure estimates is crucial for identifying the temporal scale at which human daily mobility affects exposure assessments and for informing practical strategies for GPS data collection. This study evaluated the influence of sampling rates on long-term personal exposure to air pollution, noise, green space, and fast food environments.

Is Likeability in the Eye of the Beholder? A Quasi-Experimental Study on Personality, Social Anxiety and the Need for Affiliation in Assessing the Likability of Socially Anxious Adults.

While most people desire acceptance and approval from their peers, previous research have shown that for anxious individuals often peers show a reduced willingness to pursue further interactions with them after initial interactions. To gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the process of likability, we conducted two studies. Using a zero-acquaintance paradigm and a quasi-experimental design, we aimed to investigate whether the likability of socially anxious and non-anxious individuals is primarily influenced by first impressions or the extent of their self-disclosure. The seco

Examining ecological momentary assessment (EMA) alone versus EMA with personalized feedback for hazardous drinking among Korean college students.

BACKGROUND: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) may function not only as an assessment method but possibly also an intervention strategy by increasing self-monitoring and awareness of drinking behavior. Personalized feedback (PF) integrated with EMA may further facilitate cognitive and behavioral change. This study compared the effects of EMA alone and EMA combined with PF (EMA + PF) on hazardous drinking (as assessed by the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test- Consumption tool), drinking motives, and alcohol expectancies among college students. METHODS: Participants completed a Year

Driver-personalized risk assessment in car-following: validation of an optical-flow-based model using SHRP 2 naturalistic driving.

Traffic crashes remain a major cause of injury and mortality worldwide, yet the effectiveness of crash-preventive safety systems is often limited by a "one-size-fits-all" approach that ignores substantial inter-individual differences in driving behavior. To address this, we tailored an existing risk feeling formula (RFF) to individual drivers' braking styles. Using a subset of the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study dataset, we extracted 2,911 car-following sequences (gas-off to brake-on). To rigorously prevent data leakage, sequences were split at the trip level into independent calibration and

Spinal cord status assessment and early interventional personalized rehabilitation after endoscopic surgery for cervical compressive myelopathy: a randomized trial.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Cervical compressive myelopathy (CCM), frequently arising from spinal degeneration, results in significant motor and sensory deficits. Currently, there is a lack of precise prognostic evaluation methods following decompression surgery for CCM, which hinders the optimization of personalized rehabilitation therapy. However, the combination of intraoperative endoscopic visualization of dural sac compression morphology and electrophysiological functional assessment holds promise in addressing this gap. PURPOSE: To determine whether a personalized rehabilitation strategy, infor
